An Dear Dear to the Academy Awards Jury

Dear Dear of the Academy Awards Jury,

I write this letter with great respect for the Academy and its commitment to recognizing excellence in cinema.

I would like to raise a respectful question regarding Oscar-winning and Oscar-nominated performances portraying real neurological or psychiatric disorders.

Among these are Daniel Day-Lewis (My Left Foot), Dustin Hoffman (Rain Man), Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything), Anthony Hopkins (The Father), and Robert De Niro (Awakenings), whose performances received Academy recognition.

My question is simple:

How can a jury composed of film professionals determine that one portrayal of a complex neurological or psychiatric disorder is more medically authentic than another without consulting qualified neurologists or psychiatrists?

Acting is an art, but neurological and psychiatric disorders are matters of medical science. The Academy has every right to judge artistic excellence, yet when authenticity in portraying a real medical condition is central to the performance, shouldn't independent medical specialists also be consulted?

This is not an objection to the talent, dedication, or achievements of any actor. It is a respectful objection to the evaluation process. My belief is that the Oscar should always be awarded to the most deserving performance, and where medical authenticity is an essential part of the role, expert medical opinion could strengthen the credibility and fairness of the Academy's decision.

I offer this suggestion in the spirit of constructive dialogue and with sincere respect for the Academy.
