So excited (and grateful!) to collaborate and partner with @plankford3 this year. It’s going to be the best year yet! Can’t wait to welcome all @bvschools Social Studies teachers back on Aug. 15. Let’s get 2022-23 started!
First day (part 1) of year 5 looked a little different this year! I got to welcome & help introduce new SS teachers to BV with my new part time gig helping @JSmithIDC this year as a 6-12 SS coordinator! Loving this new opportunity & almost time to start year 5 @ BVW next week!
.@plankford3 and I are ready to welcome new @bvschools Social Studies teachers tomorrow! Excited to learn with and from them as we prep for the 2022-23 school year. 🙌🏻💙 Welcome!
A crowdsourced appreciation of teachers was turned into a community poem by @kwamealexander. The poem includes an homage to
"those 19 backpacks
those 19 summer vacations,
those 19 new pairs of sandals."

OMS had our very first Coffee House after school today. It was so fun to listen to students sing their favorite songs and have some coffee and hot chocolate. A great way to end our day!
@bvschools Middle School Social Studies Teachers - I can’t wait to see you on Tuesday morning. It’s been too long! Looking forward to learning and collaborating with you! 🙌🏻💙🥰
"The harm done by long-term exposure to injustice ... calls for more than a simple understanding of kindness. It demands that kindness be interwoven with substantial notions of true justice."

"We cannot reach—or teach—our students without knowing them. When a student is celebrated for exactly who they are, they know they have permission to not just be somebody—but to be the very best version of themselves." #Pride

I showed my pronouns in my Zoom handle today (1st day of 2nd semester), mentioned my husband, and two students came out as nonbinary in their Zoom names by adding pronouns (I didn’t ask for pronouns), and a trans student was able to use their name rather than legal name. 🏳️⚧️ 🏳️🌈
In this moment, it's important to remember the incredible power for change that educators hold. Members of the Teaching Tolerance Advisory Board offer some ways we can all recommit to equity—and remind us of the change we can make in just 100 days.
