@DoBetter_ Having been on 3 bishoprics assigning callings, I have seen some given through prayer and fasting. Some have been great revelatory moments, others didn’t seem so but were just as inspired.
I've also seen callings given without thought for prayer. Radically different in outcome.
@stackerco It’s not doctrine. And the hqndbook specifically says bishop has full discrection on whether someone is dressed appropriately for participating in an ordinance.
I've asked brothers to participate who did not have white shirts or ties. Circumstances change from one to another.
@PetGorilla Well it speaks to the person and nature of the Son.
According to some Christians, there's different versions of Jesus Christ and depending which you believe you might go to hell.
But I'd point out your initial post didn’t refer particularly to elements pertaining to salvation.
@PetGorilla The relationship between God the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost seem pretty important.
This was a sticky point between Catholics and Orthodox, which in part led to the great schism. The Holy Ghost proceeds from the Father, or from the Father AND the Son?
@PetGorilla I'm not talking of translation but of the interpretation one makes of the text when reading it.
How do you reconciliate the various interpretations of the bible throughout christendom with it being the basis for truth? And how do you determine which interpretation is correct?
@stackerco 6th century is 600-500 BC.
Is that an exact timeframe or is there a margin of error? Say give or take 15 years, that means it could have been written on the plates in 615 BC.
Also becuase this is "usually" divided in such timeframes does not make it necessarily so.
@PetGorilla@joshnaa2gez@grok Well it’s the same principle for both.
Whether salvation or exaltation there are ordinances (or works if you want to call them that) linked.
Whether salvation or exaltation both are given through the grace of Jesus Christ. Provided we have faith in Him we can freely access both
@PetGorilla@joshnaa2gez@grok Again, the "works" doesn’t make us gods.
Jesus Christ does.
Belief is not sufficient. The devils believe and as far as I'm aware this does not save them. What saves is faith in Jesus Christ and His atonement, and faith without works is...? Dead.
@PetGorilla@joshnaa2gez No. The "works" we do are a demonstration of our faith in Him and love for Him. Those works are necessary but they hold no saving nor "god-making" qualities of their own doing.
It is Christ who saves, Christ who makes us perfect.
@PetGorilla@joshnaa2gez Following Jesus Christ is the most important factor here.
If He says I need temple ordinances, or if He says stop eating rice, or start supportîng Chelsea FC, whatever it is one probably should do it.
One can have all the temple ordinances there are and still not be exalted.
@PetGorilla@joshnaa2gez Up to Christ to judge on that really.
Only He knows whether we truly try to follow Him : it’s a question of desires just as much as it is a question of active faith.
@moak_ryan@Apologetics941 That’s another topic altogether. But yes the NT prophesies of a falling away, and restoration of the church before the second coming of Christ.
@Apologetics941@moak_ryan According to this video, God is a repecter of persons and does not give equal opportunity for all to be saved..
Also, is Abraham saved even though He lived before Christ? Or Moses, or any of the OT prophets?
The atonement of Christ does extend in the past as it does the future.
