After helpful peer review, our work looking at flexible strategy use, vicarious trial and error, and medial prefrontal cortex rhythms is out!

The big picture message is: contextualize behavior before interpreting it. Read on for how/why we did it (1/9)
Happy to share our Opinion piece @TrendsCognSci "Large-scale interactions in predictive processing: oscillatory versus transient dynamics" with @martin_a_vinck, @uran_cem, Jarrod Dowdall & Brian Rummell. Check our thread below 🧵👇
I am excited to share our latest research led by PhD student Mohammad Yaghoubi (@yaghoubi_mh) entitled: “Predictive Coding of Reward in the Hippocampus”

Highlights: 🧵👇
Our new study is out today in the New England Journal of Medicine! We demonstrate a speech neuroprosthesis that decodes the attempted speech of a man with ALS into text with 97.5% accuracy, enabling him to communicate with his family, friends, and colleagues in his own home. 1/9
Delighted our latest finding! We discovered that abstract representations emerge in the human hippocampus when learning to perform inference. This change in neural geometry is due to disentanglement of discovered latent and observable variables. @Nature https://t.co/Kr7ClRd95I

@andrewpapale1 @adredish Yes! I draw an explicit parallel to results from that paper in the last paragraph of "Reconciling VTE findings and contextualizing behavior" in the Discussion 🙂
I also made the cover for this month's issue! (The image in the first part of the thread.)
Anyway, reach out if you have questions. Hope you enjoy!

If I were continuing this work I'd look at whether theta sequence content differed on putative deliberative vs. uncertain VTEs. I bet hippocampal theta sequences are clearer during deliberative VTEs, and I bet those trials have stronger hippocampal-mPFC communication!

Pleased to summarize our publication (https://t.co/j9XWcQCEOK in @Nature) reporting human prefrontal single neuron responses to semantic features during language comprehension! (1/12)
Our preprint on how the mouse olfactory bulb processes natural odor scenes is out! Despite weak concentration tracking at the cellular level, population spiking activity discerned whiffs and blanks across plumes. @dhgire@SteinmetzNeuro@nrigolli
