My main takeaway from this course was that digital technology is incredibly tied to nearly every facet of our lives, and nearly all of them could be disrupted at a moments notice. The surprising speed and lack of defense against disruptions surprised me a lot.

I think the video, while impressive, could still be identified as fake. It looks a little "too smooth" and a bit uncanny. While that may be reassuring, it's troubling to know that AI isn't super strong at identifying deepfakes. Our best defense is careful analysis #DCIM353B
This article predicts that, although not used very widely in the 2020 election, deepfakes will be used more in politics in coming years, and as they grow more realistic, can potentially manipulate many.

@ShannonTanner22 This reading is great for analyzing some of the downsides to an increasingly public life, and some of the harms that come with connecting to others on social media.
@sophiat_ru This is definitely an important concept to remember. We often forget how different today's age is compared to the past, where we can directly contribute to the same mass media that we consume.
@IsaacSYoon1 #DCIM353B This is a great concept to keep in mind. The idea of convergence is vital in understanding how we interact with nearly all digital technology.
An important concept to keep in mind for Essay 2 is that the ability to interact with eachother, on its own, does little to increase the quality of life of ordinary people (Carah and Louw, chap 11)

@JakeBatista11 I would argue that the reason disruptive technologies are able to thrive in the first place is the failure of other companies in their market to adapt.

@garrettjordan99 Unfortunately, everything comes down to money and advertising. Most of the technology we cover in our projects and paper will probably live or die based on how much market research and advertising they do.

@achintya11singh Definitely a valuable take away. I think they are also more equipped as their smaller size can allow them to change their values or structures completely with less consequence than a bigger company.

An important concept to consider for essay 1 is brought up by Christensen in his HBR article. He states that often when analyzing a disruptive company's capabilities most only pay attn. to resources at first, but it's vital to also consider their processes and values.
@cheesey30571705 I did some Doordash driving over the summer so I have some experience with this. I definitely think Doordash, UberEats and Grubhub could eventually become real disruptors. You should look into the Uber lawsuit in California, could hold them back.

@maxdangelo99 This will be a really cool project! I think AI in particular is super interesting just because there's so many different routes that different companies can go with it. It will be interesting to see which uses you focus on!

@selinbellibas This is a great choice! I wrote about this for an earlier assignment and feel that if we adopt this tech, we would have to fundamentally change the way we drive and the laws surrounding it.

For my EDTP project, I will be researching game streaming technology, and it's potential to disrupt both traditional video game retail markets, as well as the home console markets. I'll be studying the models of Google Stadia, Amazon Luna, and Microsoft xCloud

This is definitely one of the weirder changes to social norms at a glance. Imagine explaining this to someone years ago. Getting rides from strangers without taxi licenses sounds like it would be a guaranteed disaster. But I and many of my friends use it constantly.
