That is 1000% a Nazi salute being given behind the presidential podium on Inauguration Day (also MLK day) by the richest person on the planet. That moment will live in infamy.
@SonnyBurnett500 @WendyCoutu2@markusoff bro a trade war with our main trading partner is already going to do that, for every province. we are on the same team here, we need to act like it. this tribalism is a big flashing weak point.
@notyourdox@CBCNews it's a trade war - the other side is hurting our economic interests at their own personal cost, it's normal for us to do the same. it's stupid to have trade wars with our allies but our main trade partner elected a malicious, incompetent old man so, here we are.
@JamesMuchLesser@wtfisavio china's the third largest beef producing country in the world. you can get into the quality and practices if you like but americans really live in a glass house when it comes to livestock practices so, careful there.
@PortsideSully tbf it's gotten better since a decade ago after coal mining reforms - more like 75-100 per day now. to compare, if america had the population of china, it'd be at around 60 per day right now. not really worlds apart anymore.
Ok, we are legit witnessing the greatest geopolitical Streisand effect of my lifetime.
I'm seeing dozens of posts on X with massive engagement (10s of thousands of likes and millions of views) praising China and lambasting U.S. anti-China propaganda. I assume this is the same on other social media platforms. It's likely the greatest soft power win China has ever scored by a huge margin.
And the funniest thing is China literally did nothing for it: it's entirely organic or, more accurately, triggered by the US government.
Will it be sustained? Are we witnessing a turning point where Americans will durably refuse to get brainwashed and gaslighted about China? Let's see... But one thing is sure, especially when you couple this with the vibe shift of younger Americans around Israel, we're entering a new age where U.S. propaganda - once so good that most people didn't even realize its existence - is increasingly ineffective.
it's kinda funny that what most americans know about china is 90% from western education and news media, then like 9.9% from western entertainment media, and now they are going to be drinking from a hose of beautiful under-25 chinese influencers from major urban centres.
