Hello! My name is Jake Files and I’m applying to internal medicine with an interest in combined research residency programs and infectious diseases! My scientific interests include all host-pathogen interactions and specifically viral immunology.

Super exciting to see our work on immune responses to acute COVID-19 in people with HIV published. Grateful for the endless support from @NerdmannID@JacobFiles93

Immune dysfunction after Covid19.
We've known since 2020.
We do not know if it is progressive, but w reinfections pretty high & viral persistence occurring it does not matter.
A thread from my threads - the top 12 papers showing clear immune dysregulation in chronological order!
@MarkEPepin Interesting article about this below. Seems that they want you to discuss multiple hobbies/interests under the "Selected Experiences" section with a 750 word limit. Thoughts about whether this would be better than including it in the personal statement? https://t.co/bNAImbrlq7
Thanks goes to @UABMSTP for allowing us to attend and @A_P_S_A for putting on such a great conference! As always, I appreciate @NerdmannID and @OASkye for the support and the exciting science that I was able to present!
Finished Step 2 and my MS3 clinical year this past week and was able to celebrate by attending @JointMeeting! Was able to attend some amazing talks, network with program directors, and even try some deep-dish pizza!
Interested in knowing how immune activation & antigen persistence impact both acute #COVID19 & #LongCovid ? Check out our recently published review paper! @JacobFiles93@NerdmannID https://t.co/ajll8tVBbg
Overall, these results suggest that vaccine-encoded adapted epitopes dampen CD4+ T-cell responses and impact HIV-specific antibody production. We believe a future "fully non-adapted" HIV vaccine may provide optimal B-cell help for improved HIV-specific antibody production.

The last paper from my PhD dissertation was recently published in the Journal of Virology!
As always, much thanks to @goepfert_paul for his mentorship and for the rest of the Goepfert lab!

Additionally, while NAE-specific CD4+ T-cell responses correlated with HIV-specific antibodies (IgG Env Ab) in one efficacy trial, this was not found to be the case with CD4 + T-cell responses to AE.

Started my MS3 clinical rotations a few months ago. Loving it! I also just resubmitted a manuscript from my PhD thesis project after receiving reviewer comments.
Seeing patients during the week, submitting papers on the weekend... I ALMOST feel like a physician-scientist! 😂
