I've given thousands of commuters who were struggling with public transit rides for free on the way to work. Everyone from students, grandmas, to workers or drunks. Never had an issue there and everyone is grateful

It is true that London, Amsterdam are so incredibly quiet in comparison because of the lack of cars driving around most streets esp. high speeds.
