In my efforts to enhance the longstanding relations between the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA-UK) and Kenya, I hosted the esteemed CPA-UK delegation in my office today.
Led by the Honorable Lyn Brown, Member of Parliament for West Ham and Shadow Minister for Africa, the delegation brought forth a crucial discussion regarding the CPA's pursuit of a legal status within the United Kingdom.
During this meeting, I fervently emphasized to the delegation the significance of maintaining the CPA's presence in the UK, not only due to the tangible benefits it offers, but also because of the deep-rooted nostalgic heritage that has connected our nations since 1911.
I ardently conveyed to the delegation, "Should the UK encounter any obstacles, we stand prepared to contribute towards upholding the vitality of the CPA. Considering our longstanding history dating back to 1911, we cannot contest its current status."
Furthermore, we engaged in an informative exchange regarding the composition of our respective legislative bodies. I took the opportunity to address the challenges faced by women who aspire to pursue political careers, encompassing various aspects such as political dialogue, social media hurdles, the conduct of female leaders, and the prevailing threats that deter women from seeking political office.
Hon. Brown expressed her organization's strong commitment to fostering increased female representation in Parliament, a sentiment I wholeheartedly shared. In this regard, I underscored the importance of advising political parties with significant influence to actively support female candidates by granting them tickets to run for various elective seats in elections..
Acknowledging our society's persisting masculinity, I pointed out that Rwanda currently leads with an impressive 54% female representation in government, largely due to well-defined legal procedures.
We collectively recognized the elevated standards to which women politicians are often held, acknowledging both the challenges they face and the potential for transformative leadership they bring to the table.
I extended my sincere appreciation to the CPA-UK for their commendable efforts in enhancing the capacity and effectiveness of Kenyan parliamentarians and staff. Their contributions have undeniably played a crucial role in empowering our parliamentary system and fostering meaningful progress in our legislative endeavors

Very excited to be helping deliver @CPA_UK's 70th anniversary Westminster Seminar. This will be the first Westminster Seminar in its long history to be in a hybrid format, with MPs and clerks from around the Commonwealth joining in person and virtually.
This year we are celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Westminster Seminar, our flagship programme focussed on parliamentary procedure and practice that started in 1952. This year's theme is Evolving Parliaments. More information 👇
