@MNitrogenGuy Thanks for infomative content. I do think that optimal fertilisation will also reach a plateau in terms of plant growth. Other major factors leading to higher yields include improved genetics
Rico Basson, MD of @Vinpro_za says that only 9% of wine farmers are earning sustainable incomes. Fifty percent are making low profis, 3% only breaking even and 38% making a loss. #Vinproday
Notice the drooping effect of tree on left vs right. Crop load very high and high risk of alternate bearing. Fruit size still relatively good though. Branches might break if not supported.
@opcitex Not sure. When i see something like that i immediately think auxin sprays for thinning/size. But we dont use many auxins. We generally had good citrus growing conditions this year with one area being affected by drought.
@opcitex In our region we dont have many full bearing orchards yet. So cant give you an accurate number. But some of our 3 to 4 year orchards yielded below 5 tonnes per ha. We are using girdling and heavy gibb now and this is looking promising.
These are the true heroes of the southern African citrus industry. Truck drivers who were staged between north and Durban now arriving in Durban - tired, traumatized and hungry. Some have not eaten since Monday. Growers have authorized CGA to supply them with food.
