So happy that I can finally share the results of my first postdoc paper with @baym!! Turns out plasmids are an amazing system to study multi-scale evolution and we can track within-cell and between-cell dynamics! Here’s a photo of plasmids competing inside cells in a colony (1/n)
Love phage-bacteria interactions, anti-phage systems, and a sprinkle of evolutionary biology? There’s still time to apply and join our team in Glasgow at @UofGSii !
It's a win for PGRs ✊
After sustained campaigning by UCU, UKRI-funded PGRs can look forward to the biggest real-term increase in funding two decades

The Vice Chancellor has said “not to change was not an option.”
Maybe the Vice Chancellor could propose a change to her £290,000 salary or give her company car back.
UCU will deliver a widespread fightback against these attacks.
Excited to share our latest research 😀: Impact of commercial gut health interventions on caecal metagenome and broiler performance. Huge thanks to @gia_pangga for her incredible effort 👏🏼 @NicolaeC3 and many others for their contributions 🧫🐔🦠🧑🏼🌾

We show that closely related MRSP lineages differ in whether specific ARGs are encoded on mobilisable plasmids, or stably on the chromosome. We also found that MRSP causing the highest disease rates lack #phage defence systems, and consequently encode a high burden of prophages.
Really pleased to share my first pre-print! This started as a curiosity project @LucyG247 and I began (many) years ago in @RLRGroup. Massive thanks to all authors- particularly @dutchscientist and @GiusyM1990 for their contributions https://t.co/Gv9sjvXzqI
