Exposure to the topic of ‘sustainability’, has made me reflect on my chosen topic and reminded me of my passions and interests. Through reflection, I am considering ‘sustainability’ as a new topic choice and utilising some of the great resources that have been posted. #UoNTeach
@NGlohe Using this simple but well summed-up approach to teaching using 21st century skills, resonates more clearly with my teaching practice and allows a quality benchmark when reflecting on/creating work. Thanks for the share! #UoNTeach
Through twitter I have been exposed to the differences between global perspective, general capabilities, cross curriculum priority and big picture theme. I now have a better understanding of how to mesh my big picture theme within the other areas. #UoNTeach#reflections
@Reace_Louise Community-Based pedagogy is an approach I used on my recent ‘out-of-area’ placement to help connect mine, and student learning with the community. Reflecting on this pedagogy has helped me better understand and craft a new unit of work on local history. Thanks! #UonTeach
This multimodal representation has me thinking of ways I could use icons/images to communicate more than just one idea. Using a image with an action/vector could be a great alternative/addition when teaching to EASL/NESL
A Newcastle Story https://t.co/45qOhTK8sC A great resource for anyone with local history in mind. Another fantastic excursion with plenty of information about Newcastle all in one place. #UoNTeach#NewcastleNSW
@CarlyHarris12 @Dairy_Australia I’m creating a unit on local history and farming would be a great feature to incorporate into the unit. There are many various types of farming in the hunter region that are valuable to Newcastle’s local history. Thanks for the extra element I can now add into the unit.
A great visual representation of diversity among Aboriginal languages in NSW. This could link in with ‘Local History’ when looking at #Aboriginal Perspectives. #UoNTeach
@teaching_miss_h@YouTube Thanks for the great resource! I’m creating a unit on ‘Local History’ and this video has made me think of ways to incorporate Newcastle’s industrial history and compare to modern industrial uses in the local area.
@PollicinaLucy My unit is based around ‘Local History’. Prior to reading your tweet, I hadn’t considered expanding beyond the physical history and looking into the cultural influences. Thanks for extra perspective!
@RennesWill I’m always interested in the ways that schools/students can be involved in #local#national#international issues and standing for beliefs without a clash of education ethics. #fightforthebight paddle out is an example where students could have had more school endorsement.
@nikolag_ This is a great video, thanks for sharing! It has given me ideas for a role play activity used in #History, where the students represent historical places and through interaction, discuss their significance to the other represented place. Potential for cross-curricula interaction
https://t.co/HnEe69oNCx Such a great way to showcase you town’s local history/geography in your classroom. This could be displayed in many different engaging ways and include information such as ‘our local: landmarks, places to visit, bush medicine’ #UoNTeach
https://t.co/bAP8cN4quG Our class is looking at landscape changes over time. This is an old but great clip of ‘Historical Newcastle’ which offers insight into both the geographical and historical past of Newcastle and surrounding districts. #UoNTeach
@Tyler31167693 This has opened my mind to the flip side of bush tucker. A valuable asset to anyone who wants to learn about freely available medicine. Would make a great inquisition into bush medicine that is local to school location. Will be using this idea in my unit. Thanks!
@JackPet36913706 I’m currently creating a unit on ‘Local History’ which is inclusive of Aboriginal/Worimi People. This is a great reminder of utilising 8 ways to enrich student learning throughout the unit. Thanks!
School excursion? Swim with wild dolphins and be immersed in a rich Port Stephen’s local history talk provided by staff, including Aboriginal history of the Worimi People and their beautiful relationship with the coast. #UoNTeach@DolphinSwimOz@Port_Stephens#excursions
