PJ Fleck was asked after the game how he's able shut out the haters and continue being himself despite the heat he takes publicly.
His message, per usual, is worth a listen no matter what you think of the Minnesota Gophers' head coach.
"We will never ever, ever, ever take winning for granted... I don't think there's any reason for anybody in this world, no matter who you are, to apologize for who you are. As long as you are being the best, most authentic, most real version of yourself every day, and you're changing your best, and you're doing good in the world. You do that, don't you ever change... Be yourself."
One of my proudest moments is with my current team. We have 49 kids. We have about 250 kids at the school.
Two years ago, we were close to canceling the season because we had a lack of juniors and seniors.
Our staff changed the culture outlook of playing football.
As programs across the state are dropping Varsity football, I'm feeling pretty blessed to have 33 Fresh-Soph kids practicing separate from the Varsity every day! Probably the fastest overall group of Fresh-Soph kids we've started with. Can't wait to see them continue to grow and improve! #FastFREAKS
Also, huge thanks to my coaches for putting in 6 hours days right now coaching both practices. I have the best staff in the State!
People Google records and say teams are bad. Without any real understanding
First year as a HC, we went 0-9. Had to start 5 freshman all year, or else we’d have had to cancel the season.
Last year, we went 2-7. Lost one game in double overtime and another in the final minute.
“Your team went 1-8”
“Your team went 1-8”
First of all we went 2-8 so maxpreps is wrong
Second of all no one knows that more than me. No one knows I am a bad coach more than me. Believe me I know.
Sometimes teams that win 3-4 games that coach does a great job!
I am not one
USMNT vs Bosnia-Herzegovina tonight.
Every American should watch this match.
It’s not about loving soccer.
It’s not about loving sports.
It’s about loving your country.
Justin Gaethje was literally in the Oval Office before his fight, looking at the actual Declaration of Independence.
Then he walked out as a 6-to-1 underdog and beat the piss out of his opponent to win the first undisputed championship of his career.
I genuinely don't care what your politics are. That's one of the coolest sequences of events I've ever seen in sports.
Am I really supposed to think this isn't awesome because people decided to make it political?
I'm incredibly blessed to have this opportunity. I can't wait to continue to grow in my faith and as a man while helping others do the same through a Christ-centered football program! #ArmorUp#NoGreaterLove
Just because you were a good player doesn’t mean you’re a good coach
Just because you “look good” on a sideline doesn’t make you a good coach
Just because you can come up with a catchphrase doesn’t mean it adds value to the program
A coach’s effort influences a player’s effort
If you’re looking for a home, there’s no truer example of leading in Love than @WLCCoachTreske couldn’t ask to have a better coach, he’s the whole reason I’m a coach. In an era where a lot of guys are just doing what they can to get the next job, Coach loves his guys!
The little things make the difference in what I have seen so far as a first year head coach. Focusing on changing the culture and helping these young men out and become great future leaders!
We needed to change the culture of the program. The little things like having 20+ kids in the weight room. (90% of our athletes haven’t missed a lift, last year we had 52% of our kids lifting) Having snacks for the kids post workout. Having athletes apply to be captains.
"You should encourage your kid to play football because its hard! Too many kids are NOT playing because its hard.
Listen, its tough to wake up in the summer mornings and go to practice, knowing other kids are sleeping in. Its tough to put on pads and a helmet in 95 degree heat in August when other kids are at the pool and your legs are shaking from exhaustion. Its hard blocking, tackling, and hitting kids who are bigger and stronger than you, only to leave practice with a dozen bruises, just to come back and do it again tomorrow.
But guess what, life is hard, life is tough, and your kid will be a lot more prepared to take it on from the lessons he learned from football. Encourage them to play football because it IS hard and there is no success in life without hardship."
