#OnThisDay in 1994, Brian Lara scored an unbeaten 501 for Warwickshire against Durham at Edgbaston - the highest individual score in first-class cricket history.

After surviving a no-ball dismissal on 12 and a dropped catch on 18, Lara smashed 62 fours and 10 sixes in a stunning 427-ball innings, surpassing Hanif Mohammad’s long-standing record of 499.

He later reclaimed the Test record too, with 400* against England in 2004.
