A tribute to Olivia Manning’s (1908-80) Levant Trilogy. She wrote 6 excellent novels which comprise her Fortunes of War series about a young British couple early in WW2. It is formed of 2 collections: the unsurpassable Balkans Trilogy (The Great Fortune, 1960, The Spoilt City, 1962, & Friends and Heroes, 1965), and (which Myers discusses here) the outstanding Levant Trilogy (The Danger Tree, 1977, The Battle Lost and Won, 1978, & The Sum of Things, 1980).
Gripping & informative, full of convincing characters & beautifully written, they are lightly disguised accounts of the wartime lives of Manning and her friends in the Balkans & Mediterranean during 1939-42. Even if you tend to disdain WW2 fiction, do read them, for they teach you more about civilians caught up in war than any amount of academic studies: highly recommended. https://t.co/kdqMiAkr2C

Celtic never died in 1994. Hours from the bank winding it up over a £5m overdraft, Fergus McCann took control on 4 March, paid the debts and restructured the existing company (SC003487, founded 1897) as Celtic PLC. Same continuous legal entity, never liquidated or demoted. Rangers 2012 entered administration then full liquidation of the oldco; a new company bought the assets and started in Division 3. Celtic paid the bills.
