@johnkroencke This actually makes more sense than the washer being in the kitchen. You can shut the door and there would be less noise in the living room.
@TottenhamConse1 Worth every penny. LTNs have broad support and people want to live without outside traffic and pollution moving through residential areas.
@DavidPocock It was a pain to calculate by hand, and not intuitive for lay people. Anyway it's a bit disingenuous to claim CGT discounting as gov expenditure imo.
@DavidPocock The point of CGT discounting was to simplify taxation for capital gains. I don't think anyone wants to return to the previous indexation system. Say you invest in a security 7-10 years ago and the nominal price doubled. The 'real' price may not have changed depending on inflation
@s8mb That's not to say there aren't any nice-looking apartments in London. I love the low/medium-rise apartments in Kensington, for example.
Also higher density living frees up more room for greenery and public spaces, creating a friendlier environment.
@s8mb I'm very pro-high-density living and I think one thing that could help people appreciate apartments being built nearby is if they were aesthetically pleasing to look at. Compare apartments in Barcelona against those in London and Sydney nowadays and there's a stark difference.
@SamRamani2 Maybe this is an expression of their feeling of vulnerability from not currently being a member of NATO. They want this threat to be completely dealt with so that they don't feel threatened by Russia anymore, while NATO countries might feel complacent under collective defence.
@alex_hallowell I also don't like how buses operate on a loose schedule, often coming early, often coming late. I understand why - plenty of bus routes don't have reserved lanes, they have to deal with traffic, need to stop at lights, sometimes they break down. I prefer trains.
@alex_hallowell I regularly catch the train, seldom catch the bus. I don't like how I need to constantly watch the road for the bus in case it's early. The moment I look away could be the moment it drives past because I didn't hail it.
@spenderallegra I'm not a constituent but I have severe concerns about how any changes to super may result in changes in people's perceptions towards putting in more contributions early on for their retirement.
Anyway I ended up here after someone shared an article where JRM compared the 'persecution' of Kate Forbes to that of Mary Queen of Scots. So I was reading about the latter on Wikipedia, and apparently Elizabeth tried to marry off Lord Dudley to the Scottish queen.
