Have never understood these takes. I assume you think she was an awful human being because she held views that were different from yours and which you found objectionable? If so, why does that make someone an awful human being? Did she ever kill anyone? Defraud anyone? Steal from anyone? Or did you just disagree with her?
Listen mate - we all know you’re very good at sport, ok? Well done 👏…You dominate (obviously) in your own sports but also in the Olympics and in other fields. You have a great sporting pedigree and culture. I’m more than happy to concede that and to congratulate you.
I suppose I’m just less inclined to indulge you when you not only demand credit for your actual achievements, but also for hypothetical achievements in a sport that you’re actually quite mediocre at but for which you think we should applaud you for in some fictional, counterfactual universe where you have arbitrarily decided to prioritise that sport..
Like, what are we doing here??
(Fwiw, I genuinely love your lot - my wife is American and my two kids are half American. You’re the friendliest, most positive people on the planet. And you’re a great nation. I just don’t think you need praise for fictional achievements 😂)
@SCFCJosh96 My god - 100%…it’s completely fine to be irrationally tribal (aren’t we all?!) so please can they just admit it, rather than trying to intellectualise it!
If I may, seems like this is the more honest point…You see England as rivals and don’t want us to win. Completely fair enough…but can we stop pretending that English media is any more arrogant than any other country’s media in the world? If anything, all I’ve seen is the English media be pessimistic about our chances, whether that be about specific opponents (Mexico) or overall (France). It’s just bollocks to say there’s arrogance to any significant extent
@CoffeeBlackMD@jeffreyboadi_ I think this is perfectly reasonable so no beef at all…However, I’d also say it’s trite and would apply to a lot of countries were they to undertake an analogous counterfactual with other sports…so I’m not sure where this point gets us
@Quillette I think you should commission me - someone who knows fuck all about NFL, has never watched it, and therefore has no right to talk about it - to write an ill-informed article about how dull it is
@krxsctr It’s crazy…Lived here all my life and love it, but last few years everything I see from the government (from both major parties) seems designed to control more, tax more, ban more, and arrest more for dissent…Don’t know what your reasons are but I’m with you on the plan!
I don’t mind this, and definitely respect it more than the pseudo-intellectual and historically illiterate nonsense you get from other Scottish fans about empire and oppression and all that disingenuous bollocks. At this least tweet is honest in its simplicity. Anyway - come on England 🏴

@StanCollymore Out of interest, what is the equivalent position for American sports? Presumably not as financially prohibitive because they are played in schools? (Btw - been enjoying your WC coverage last few weeks 👍)
