Today, the State Board of Education unanimously appointed Senior Chancellor Paul O. Burns as Florida’s Interim Commissioner of Education.
During his time @EducationFL, Dr. Burns has helped advance Florida’s education priorities and prioritized student achievement. He supported efforts to eliminate Common Core, develop the B.E.S.T. Standards, implement progress monitoring, and support parental rights.
Congratulations to Dr. Burns on this well-deserved appointment!
America’s Governor already has more points on the board in his last year in office than some governors have in their entire admins.
In the last six months, @GovRonDeSantis has:
✅ Decreased Florida’s budget for the 4th consecutive year
✅ Championed mid-decade redistricting for Florida’s congressional map
✅ Put property tax reform on the ballot for homeowners in November
✅ Tackled wasteful spending through @DOGEFla and @GovGoneWild’s FAFO
✅ Secured legislation to:
1️⃣ decertify partisan school unions, support students, and protect teacher pay
2️⃣ preserve election integrity through the Florida SAVE Act
3️⃣ ban Sharia law and designate domestic terror orgs, like CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood
I’m not surprised to see Google’s AI added Zohran Mamdani to its list of communist leaders that tax the rich—a list that includes Vladimir Lenin and Fidel Castro, who similarly implemented policies focused on taxing the wealthy to redistribute resources.
Thanks to the leadership of @GovRonDeSantis, Florida’s History of Communism standards don’t hold back in describing the atrocities committed by these monsters, while encouraging students to explore the perils of centralized economic control.
As we mark the midpoint of the school year, I thank all charter and traditional public school teachers and parents for working together to reinforce learning, support growth, and help students finish the year strong. When we come together to support learning in both the classroom and at home, students are empowered to succeed.
Florida is literally about to hit the limit for the amount it can put in its rainy day fund.
Other states are still figuring out how to pay back the debts inherited from poor financial stewards of years past (and present).
Florida keeps winning thanks to @GovRonDeSantis.
Unions, leftist school board members and certain media outlets claim Florida is defunding public schools. The reality is the exact opposite. @GovRonDeSantis’ proposed 2026–2027 budget delivers record investments:
- A historic $30.6 billion in funding for K-12 education ✅
- $9,406 in per student funding, an increase of nearly $300 per student, providing the highest amount in Florida’s history ✅
- A record $1.56 billion for public school teacher salary increases, an appropriation that did not exist before Governor DeSantis took office ✅
- New funding of $64 million for school hardening at Florida’s public colleges and universities ✅
- New investment of $6 million to establish Guardian programs at public higher education institutions ✅
Tina Certain, Vice Chair of the Alachua County School Board, appeared before the State Board today to respond to criticism over her recent social media posts that expressed her racist views towards Whites and Asians.
School board members must live up to the reality that young impressionable eyes are on them as examples to follow.
Last week, I shared a newsletter with teachers celebrating the outstanding results from our first round of progress monitoring—a reflection of our teachers’ dedication, parents’ engagement and our students’ hard work. I also highlighted the opportunities available through the Florida Civics and Debate Initiative, which helps students practice civil discourse and sharpen their reasoning skills. And in recognition of Victims of Communism Day, the newsletter encouraged 9th–12th grade teachers to have their students read Animal Farm to deepen their understanding of the dangers of communism and the abuse of power. Today, I took immediate action against a professor at Florida SouthWestern State College by removing him from the statewide sociology course workgroup after reports confirmed that he was using instructional materials promoting gender ideology, a direct violation of state statute. I am also recommending the college president take further disciplinary action to ensure this never happens again.
Florida taxpayers deserve general education courses that reflect proven, lawful, and fact-based instruction — not speculative ideology.
I condemn the poor leadership of Daryl Jones, whose divisive comments force conservative parents to question whether their children will be welcomed in @LeonSchools. His actions foster the lack of civility that was demonstrated at tonight’s school board meeting.
School boards need to support parents, teachers and students, not their own political agendas. Unfortunately, the Alachua County School Board has repeatedly failed its constituents. Tonight, I called them out and personally invited Vice Chair Certain to our November State Board meeting, where she will have to answer some very tough questions.
We've heard from some older Floridians who believe the Florida Dept of Health is preventing them from accessing COVID-19 vaccines in pharmacies or requiring that they obtain a prescription. This is a hoax. Although these vaccines are unsafe and not fit for human use, the decision to administer them at a pharmacy rests in the hands of the pharmacist or pharmacy. FDOH is not involved in this decision.
Happy Birthday, Ron!
As we were so tragically reminded, life is fragile, and every day is a gift. The kids and I are deeply blessed to have you in our lives. We are filled with immense gratitude for every moment we can share together. ❤️🙏
