In “Manufacturing Impact: Why We Digitize,” I really like Hadro’s ideas on purposeful access - aiming for digitized images to broaden perspectives and influence viewers’ engagement with the world and others. #NLDigIntern
I like that Van Hyning addresses not only one type of institution but many (galleries, libraries, archives & museums), and that human intervention is not only needed but made viable through crowdsourcing. Learning more about Zooniverse was also great. #NLDigIntern
Among the many great crowdsourcing platforms, I have really enjoyed Transcribing Modern Manuscripts - instructions are great & accessible from every page + it’s awesome to link to the collection guide of the item being transcribed. #NLDigIntern
#FlashbackFriday to when postcard stamps were 1 cent! This is from circa 1951, so regular postage was 3 cents. I used to collect stamps, so love seeing the vintage ones while transcribing old postcards. #NLDigIntern
@VavroskyL @gombach_b @CrowdsourceJM It wasn’t there when I transcribed on Wednesday, but I transcribed a bunch yesterday and they all had the magnification tool. Not sure if it was in response to this thread or my browser is being weird, but it was so helpful!
When Rose Holley speaks of creating a “centralized global pool of volunteers and projects rather than each library trying to establish its own volunteer base,” I couldn’t help but think that perhaps this is what Zooniverse is starting. #NLDigIntern
When going to the beach meant wearing suits, dresses, and hats and a pier headed out into the ocean by a huge Victorian building. If you were seeing all that, it would be around 1900. #OpenSFHistory
This seven-story Victorian version of San Francisco’s Cliff House is one of my favorite things of all time. #RIP#gingerbreadhouse#NLDigIntern https://t.co/oxNCZULd97
Jamie here, haven’t tweeted in awhile! I recently received my MA in Museum Studies. I love photography & historical prints and am passionate about online public access to collections. So I’m excited to be crowdsourcing info for @NewberryLibrary’s postcard collection! #NLDigIntern
