Western media generally has a view that victims only really matter when the U.S. or Israel are responsible for them, which leads to a big disconnect in understanding.

They don’t try to humanize the victims of terror or the associated regime. Whether in Israel, Iran, Gaza, Lebanon, or anywhere else. We hardly hear about them.

For example, I was talking to someone who lives in Jerusalem. Very few people here understand the mindset because Israeli victims are rarely discussed in western media despite constant attacks. Their case ain’t abnormal.

In just a period of a decade: She witnessed a stabbing attack, a different terrorist murdered the elderly Israeli-Arab security guard outside the apartment where she lived with her kids, there was another attack at a nearby grocery store hours after the kids were there, and she could name at least 5 people who have knife wounds from random attacks.

Simply walking down the street is a daily risk for Israelis who live there. It’s a reality that you never read about the NYT and no one tried to grapple with.

Same goes with what Palestinian victims experience under Hamas, what Syrians/Lebanese experienced from Hezbollah, what Iranians face with The Islamic Republic.
