America saved my life.

I started out in an orphanage in Poland with the odds stacked against me. Then, by the grace of God, two Polish American parents crossed an ocean, walked into that place, and chose me. They did not have to. They did it anyway.

They brought me back to the greatest country God ever allowed men to build. Nobody in America owed me a thing. This country and its people looked at a kid with nothing and decided I was worth it anyway. That is what America does. It bets on men who have nothing but a will to prove themselves.

250 years ago a group of men put their names on a piece of paper and staked their lives, their fortunes, and their honor on one idea. That a man is not chained to his blood or his birthplace. That freedom is his by right, not by permission.

Every enemy of that idea has bet against America since. Every one of them has lost.

I am proof those men were right. A boy pulled out of an orphanage, with an accent, no connections, and something to prove, built a real life here. My parents gave me the chance. This country gave me the room to run with it. And every man along the way who shook my hand, held a door, or told me to keep grinding was carrying that same torch, whether he knew it or not.

They keep saying this country is broken. I have seen enough of the world to know exactly what it gave me. It gave me a family. It gave me the right to dream and the freedom to chase it. No other nation on earth does that the way America does.

Happy 250th. God bless my parents, and God bless this country. I will love her until the day I die.
