@Mad_In_America Of course! That’s because guess what: “traditional inpatient treatment” IS just drugging & shocking brains, injuring, insulting & invalidating people. “Traditional inpatient treatment” has NOTHING to do with helping or healing anyone. EVER. Psychiatria delenda est!
@FiveRedkin@psychgeist52@PsychToday Many people diagnosed schizophrenc, autistic etc are relieved to be referred to a real doctor as opposed to a fake doctor and to see for themselves there is no pathology whatsoever. This is medicine. Psychiatry would be abolished quicker if ‘critics’ said so.
@FiveRedkin@psychgeist52@PsychToday When applied to non medical matters yes absolutely. How else could psychiatry be proven to be fraudulent other than by demonstrating medically there is no discernible disease. This is basic Szasz.
@psychgeist52@PsychToday This is the basics of psychiatric critique. A true critic is in favour of the medical model (in its right place) as it demonstrates there is no discernible lesion, pathology etc.
@psychgeist52@PsychToday By demonstrating there is no structural or functional alteration of cells, organs, tissues etc etc.
It follows from what you wrote you should be for the medical model.
@psychgeist52@PsychToday From what you have written you should be for the medical model not against it. If the medical model were applied consistently it would be crystal clear there is no illness to treat and no neurological disorder.
It’s simple:
1. Outlaw involuntary “hospitalization”.
2. Abolish forced “treatment”.
Mental health will become a simple and respectable field, so-called “antipsychiatry” and “stigma” bogeymen will disappear, human dignity will be restored. https://t.co/IRTnasAeIY
@Tetyana_St@MarkLRuffalo Though one could reasonably argue this is also a double bind i.e if one makes intelligible the presumption of illness the ‘schizophrenic’ / personality disordered individual is nonetheless still ill!
@stimimi@grok@richmondie Sometimes I will ask a client to consult a neurologist. It’s a simple step to take. The evidence is always negative. Though some neurologists tell the client(s) that one day a biological basis will be discovered etc etc etc
@stimimi Surely ‘The Pandemic of Fake/Fantasy/Mythological Diseases’ would be a more honest title?
‘Obsessional neurosis’ is an identifiable pattern of behaviour and experience just as an ‘attention deficit’ is.
But psychiatrists are wrong to reify them as diseases.
