You assume that the only purpose of using the MOAB is to destroy Iran’s nuclear program. But military strikes can serve many other objectives: destroying fortified facilities, weakening military capabilities, and sending a powerful psychological message to Iran’s leadership.
You also focus mostly on the risks of US escalation while ignoring the costs Iran itself would face by escalating further. Deterrence works both ways.
Perhaps the purpose is psychological rather than purely military. Witnessing such a massive explosion and the destruction it causes could leave people in Iran with deep fear and lasting trauma.
The psychological impact could be far greater than the military value of the strike itself.
The strength of the article by @RZimmt stems from highlighting the below areas which are usually ignored by other analysts:
1. The strongest argument: Survival is not victory.
2. The Strait of Hormuz: The ability to cause damage is not the ability to win.
Lastly, his ability to compare the bargaining powers as I illustrated below:

@citrinowicz could not hold himself from criticising @MarioNawfal post.
This is to expose the flows in @citrinowicz post: https://t.co/GQTGdkC2AF
@citrinowicz raises valid concerns about another war, but his analysis has a familiar weakness: he measures success against extreme outcomes such as regime collapse, complete military destruction, or unconditional surrender.
Why assume these are the only measures of success?
A military campaign can achieve strategic gains without eliminating the Iranian regime. Further weakening Iran's military capabilities, limiting its ability to rebuild, and reducing its capacity to threaten neighboring countries could all change the balance of power.
There is also an important difference between the two sides. Iran is already under severe economic and military pressure. Another war could make its position even worse. Yet the author treats the risks of escalation as though both sides face similar consequences.
Finally, the fact that previous wars did not settle every issue does not prove that further military action cannot change the strategic balance.
A war does not have to end in regime collapse to weaken a regime. And an unresolved conflict does not mean both sides have gained or lost equally.
All indicators point to war in the next few days:
- Massive U.S. military build-up over the past 2 weeks (ongoing)
- Iranian and Israeli military drills (Israeli jets over Syria and Iraq, Iranian ballistic missile launches)
- Warning by Israel to Hezbollah not to join a war with Iran, threatening to hold Lebanon itself responsible
- Qatar just warned it's citizens to prep for the worst
- No progress in the negotiations, with multiple leaks by many outlets regarding imminent strikes
- Massive escalation by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz as Gulf countries try to get as much oil out as they can before a restart of hostilities
The only question is, who wants to escalate before the midterms: Iran to harm Trump politically, or Trump and Israel to give a bombing campaign another try?
If I had to guess: The U.S/Israel may have intel of a pre-emtive Iranian strike being planned, and may strike first to avoid Trump getting humiliated

Here is the evidence:
Kpler reported that "Hormuz: Normalisation no longer needs to wait for a deal"
You responded that "It's been truly surreal to see groups like @Kpler & others to stake their credibility on Trump’s claims of Hormuz “normalization” as tankers are being blown up, ..."
You called it "ill-advised"
Please check up your memory.
It's been truly surreal to see groups like @Kpler & others to stake their credibility on Trump’s claims of Hormuz “normalization” as tankers are being blown up, freight rates hit $1.4M a day and Trump literally has to cut a diesel *deal* with Putin to ease the crisis.
