Had to get the business clear with Officer Tatum about a few things.

When Black people talk about the lack of resources in our communities that isn’t about asking for handouts. It’s about making sure our tax dollars come back to our communities like everyone else’s.

When conservatives funded snap, it was because they didn’t want to hurt the business owners.

When I talk about schools, roads, parks, and public investment, I’m talking about fairness and accountability—not charity.

Louisiana’s Attorney General just got hit with a $240,000 sanction after a judge found her office pursued a lawsuit that wasn’t supported by the facts or the law.

What was the investigation about?

A non-binding proclamation welcoming Senator Bernie Sanders to Shreveport.

While Louisiana continues to struggle with crime, taxpayers are now paying for a political lawsuit that never made our communities any safer.

In 1830, North Carolina passed laws that criminalized teaching enslaved Black people to read and write.

On January 1, 1830, North Carolina enacted legislation making it a crime to teach any enslaved person to read or write. The law included:
• Fines for anyone (Black or white) caught teaching literacy to enslaved people.
• Specific penalties for distributing abolitionist materials, which authorities feared could spark rebellion.
This law was part of a wave of anti-literacy laws passed across the South after events like: The 1829 publication of David Walker’s Appeal — a radical antislavery text written by a free Black man and Nat Turner’s Rebellion in 1831, which further intensified white fears and led to even harsher restrictions afterward.
Teaching enslaved people to read was seen as dangerous because literacy:
• Enabled communication and organizing.
• Allowed access to abolitionist writings.
• Empowered enslaved people to challenge their legal and social conditions.
Enslavers knew literacy was power — which is why Black communities pursued it despite the risks.
