An interesting attempt to model optimal running strategy:
"the most effective way to run a race is to run approximately the same pace the entire race without letting one's energies hit zero, by consuming in-race nutrition"

Aging Athlete Strategy
One of @eperjon questions at dinner was my experience with coaching speedy SuperVets
The key lesson: as we age there are sessions that break us down & risk injury
โ Notice these sessions and remove them
โ Pause and consider how to get a similar physiological stimulus, differently
The example I used in my article about Ron Ottaway was fast running
Ron and I noticed speed work would break him down and risk injury
In Ron's case we made a decision to use the bike for high intensity sessions as these were well tolerated
The older we get, the more powerful "just keep training" becomes - this is because everyone is dealing with biomechanical issues & life limiters
Champion SuperVets know consistency drives gains
Interrupting explosive strength training for 4 weeks after concurrent training doesn't impact running performance gains:
"short-term explosive strength training cessation might be beneficial and could be considered as a taper strategy"
