Somerset residents voted for Trump over Harris. They just learned because Trump is halting offshore wind energy projects, that they will lose out on 250 new jobs and up to $14 million in tax revenue per year from this plant. #FAFO2025
After years of getting all the necessary permits, Prysmian Group decided to no longer move forward with its new cable manufacturing plant at Brayton Point in Somerset. https://t.co/BZL4ZtFn7Z
@Angry_Staffer All the fake patriots with American flags as part of their user names are losing their minds. “Owning the libs” took a step back yesterday. Good on Biden.
@Angry_Staffer My teenage son sent me a video from TikTok after it reopened, which said yeah that was all ridiculously permormative and beyond obvious. The kids looking at TikTok get it. Wish the adults did too.
@Serps Agreed. Similar stats as a result of similar policies here in Boston has made our city one of the safest cities in the country. Who knew that lifting people in need as opposed to vilifying them could make life better for everyone. Our leaders did.
I am sick of Texas. Multiple mass attacks (the latest attack in New Orleans comes from a Texas citizen), one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the country and an undue impact on American policy. Texas get your crap together. Americans deserve better.
@mostlypeaceful Interesting. My town and my job are full of immigrants and I find them to be some of the kindest, most generous people I have ever met. Maybe tell your wife to be kinder to people that don’t look or sound like her. I bet she will see a difference.
@Angry_Staffer Nah. Trump will distract his base by deporting Latino migrants by force while quietly importing H1B workers to appease his donors. Even worse, US jobs will continue to go to India and China without a peep.
Florida Democrats: How could you NOT win this seat, knowing what a dirtbag Matt Gaetz is? If Doug Jones could win in deep red Alabama against a terrible candidate, you could have as well. I swear, it’s like you’re not even trying. 🤷♀️
The House Ethics Committee on Monday accused Matt Gaetz of “regularly” paying for sex, including with a 17-year-old girl, and buying and using illicit drugs while he was a member of Congress.
The Right denigrates education, calls it woke & wants to gut the DoE, which will hurt Public Ed. Trump et al send their kids to the best schools $$ can buy & promote H1B to get around the lazy “American culture”. You will suffer while they make $$. Trump voters, you got played.
The reason top tech companies often hire foreign-born & first-generation engineers over “native” Americans isn’t because of an innate American IQ deficit (a lazy & wrong explanation). A key part of it comes down to the c-word: culture. Tough questions demand tough answers & if we’re really serious about fixing the problem, we have to confront the TRUTH:
Our American culture has venerated mediocrity over excellence for way too long (at least since the 90s and likely longer). That doesn’t start in college, it starts YOUNG.
A culture that celebrates the prom queen over the math olympiad champ, or the jock over the valedictorian, will not produce the best engineers.
A culture that venerates Cory from “Boy Meets World,” or Zach & Slater over Screech in “Saved by the Bell,” or ‘Stefan’ over Steve Urkel in “Family Matters,” will not produce the best engineers.
(Fact: I know *multiple* sets of immigrant parents in the 90s who actively limited how much their kids could watch those TV shows precisely because they promoted mediocrity…and their kids went on to become wildly successful STEM graduates).
More movies like Whiplash, fewer reruns of “Friends.” More math tutoring, fewer sleepovers. More weekend science competitions, fewer Saturday morning cartoons. More books, less TV. More creating, less “chillin.” More extracurriculars, less “hanging out at the mall.”
Most normal American parents look skeptically at “those kinds of parents.” More normal American kids view such “those kinds of kids” with scorn. If you grow up aspiring to normalcy, normalcy is what you will achieve.
Now close your eyes & visualize which families you knew in the 90s (or even now) who raise their kids according to one model versus the other. Be brutally honest.
“Normalcy” doesn’t cut it in a hyper-competitive global market for technical talent. And if we pretend like it does, we’ll have our asses handed to us by China.
This can be our Sputnik moment. We’ve awaken from slumber before & we can do it again. Trump’s election hopefully marks the beginning of a new golden era in America, but only if our culture fully wakes up. A culture that once again prioritizes achievement over normalcy; excellence over mediocrity; nerdiness over conformity; hard work over laziness.
That’s the work we have cut out for us, rather than wallowing in victimhood & just wishing (or legislating) alternative hiring practices into existence. I’m confident we can do it. 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
@AMLinehan I can’t believe how ugly this has become! I appreciate your professionalism throughout. I agree we have issues regarding transportation and traffic that need to be fixed but attacking sitting councilors is not the way to do it. These people are acting like spoiled children.
