@Thegroz I don't blame Dan for the problems but I don't think he part of the solution.
Hitting comes and goes but this team in continually lackadaisical and unfocused in the field, on the basepaths and in the batters box.
Way too many mental mistakes and poor situational approaches.
@CorbinSmithNFL No fan of Wilson the Manager but this position group is (eye test or WAR) is bottom of the barrel. The worst defense in MLB, not much speed and very poor judgment on the basepaths, MLB leading 'chase rate' in the batter's box.
"They get themselves out, so you don't have to"
@jr695111@RyanDivish Canzone would be worse in the OF... but at least he would try harder and feel worse about needing a Thomas Guide to find a route to the ball...and Randy would be pouting at the plate, of course.
@RefuseToLosePod You might agree that this team is frequently sloppy & unfocused; field, batters box and often on the basepaths. They may well benefit from someone a little less laid back and tolerant.
Dan is mediocre; neither good or bad. A tough (gutsy?) fire with his history. Not happening.
This Mariners season has been very emotionally draining - moreso than years past - and I think I finally figured out why.
I think reaching the ALCS last year in a way raised our expectations for what the team can - and should - be.
Instead, not only did we get a baseball team that lacks focus on a nightly basis and doesn’t know the fundamentals, but we also got a FO that for the fourth(!) year in a row voluntarily put their pencils down a bat short which has resulted in us once again starving ourselves for run production. Yeah, injuries and underperformance are part of it as well, but we’re also regularly running out players who should never be full-time players (Raley, Rivas, Robles, Weston Wilson, Michael Rucker).
This type of roster construction has become a staple of Jerry Dipoto’s archaic footprint, and after four years of the exact same issues plaguing this team, it becomes massively tiresome. And I think that’s why us fans are just SO over it and frustrated with the output that we’ve gotten.
I can only speak for myself, but I couldn’t care less that this team is currently in 1st place. It’s an unwatchable product five out of the seven nights a week. And what compounds it is I KNOW we deserve better, but instead we’re being gaslit by not only the team itself, but by specific media members who for some reason have targeted the fans instead of sympathizing with us. And that’s unacceptable. We’re the only fanbase to have never experienced a World Series game. So whatever argument you have that implies we should have patience is wrong. Period stop. Patience has officially run out, and you have no leg to stand on to tell us that we’re being unreasonable.
This trade deadline should be Jerry’s last chance. It won’t be, but it should be. We’re tired of being starved for offense, and as last year showed, we deserve better.
@MarineLayerPod The position group are bottom dwellers in MLB WAR, defense, chase rate but they are in the 'Anything Can Happen' Division...so anything can happen.
No team has ever won a division with a losing record...it's time to make some history!
@SPalico@MarineLayerPod They...don't...have...the...bats. Wilson not good but this is a group of 75 win position players; bottom 25% of the league in WAR.
@TridentTrue gotta be concerned but; no Cal, no Donovan, no defense, no answers to LH pitching, no leverage arms seems to equal 1st place and top (6) MLB run differential so I decided to call it a "what, me worry" Saturday
