@JonseyWales76 @amazingmap Where I’m from, any. Usually gravel. And on each mile to create square sections of 640 acres each, as another poster said. That’s why a “quarter” of land is 160 acres. Section lines are useful for platting farmland and checking against surveys for ownership.

@adamjohnsonCHI I grew up in a small town in one of the Dakotas. Grandpa was a WWII veterans and we were members of American Legion Jr. Auxiliary. We sold poppies and did poppy posters every year leading up to Memorial Day and laying of wreaths/21-gun salutes at cemeteries. This was 1980s-1990s.
