It looks like no judges are willing to destroy their reputations by involving themselves in the UCP's illegitimate gerrymandering scheme.

The problem is, this Premier sheaths petards by legislating her government out of pickles. It’s going to take decades to return our Province to a democracy.
“I can confirm David Parker is not cooperating with the investigation and has refused to sign a statutory declaration confirming he will comply with my direction to cease and desist with respect to the list of electors,” Gordon McClure, Alberta’s chief electoral officer.” Classy.
@mattsolberg Matt, while I admire your even-handed approach, I have a different view. When UCP caucus members and Cabinet ministers openly express support for separatism, I feel there are grounds to believe UCP complicity and sympathy for the Centurion Group is a distinct possibility.
Random Hansard tidbit.
Even if you heard or saw Premier Smith encouraging Mr. Nenshi to go to the AI Academy (Regarding Electoral Boundaries) in the official Legislature recording, you won’t find it in Hansard, because it was considered sarcastic or insubstantial.
Hansard, the official record of what is said in the legislature confirms...

Conservatives 🔵: you guys aren’t doing anything!
Liberals 🔴: here’s the twenty new trade and security deals we’ve signed.
🔵: just paper, where are the results?
🔴: the share of exports heading to non-U.S. markets has increased by about 40%.
🔵: means nothing if it doesn’t help people.
🔴: agree, and in the past year wages have grown faster than inflation every month.
🔵: not everyone is seeing that wage growth.
🔴: it's true - which is why we’ve introduced targeted support such as the groceries and essentials benefit while the growth spreads more broadly.
🔵: we can’t afford those programs.
🔴: they’re temporary, and the IMF just said Canada has the best fiscal position in the G7.
🔴: there's lots more work to do, no-one is spiking the ball, and not everything is going or will go perfectly - but we're going to keep building a strong Canada for all.

So true.
We have a h/c crisis because we don't have enough MD's. It takes 5-10 years to train one.
Rather than trying to turn all of us into MD's and make diag companies rich we should invest in training/supporting more MD's.
@aasingleton17 This child needs to be removed from politics because they need to learn to self regulate, let's do that too. You can earn your way into inclusion, but you can earn your way out of it too..."
This isn't complicated.
The independent process that every province (including AB) always uses drew a map, after extensive consultation.
Smith is tossing that map out and will ask her own party's MLAs to draw a new one, without any public consultation.
It's gerrymandering.
Premier - if you insist on quoting Premier Lougheed — don’t just cherry pick phrases to support your position. It reminds me of people who quote partial passages of the Bible to support their transgressions.
Three more things Peter Lougheed said about using the notwithstanding clause:
1⃣ "A simple majority does not appear adequate."
2⃣ "In my mind, [pre-empting judicial review] is undemocratic."
3⃣ “I would hope that the notwithstanding clause would be used very, very rarely.”
Unfortunately, the Alberta government invoked the notwithstanding clause four times in the last year, each time pre-emptively, and each time with a simple majority, rather than the higher 60% threshold Lougheed preferred.
Nobody is suggesting removing the notwithstanding clause. There are complicated constitutional issues at play but it is inaccurate and misleading to imply Peter Lougheed would support its use in a way he explicitly said he opposed.
The courts are the appropriate place for these arguments.
It is not the increase from 89 to 91 that is problematic. It is this part of the motion. Throwing out the Electoral Boundaries Commission (and all of their work) and instead creating a new committee of MLAs with a new advisory panel.
