Spatial Ecologist at the BTO. Interested in all aspects of Ecology but previously worked on Whinchats and seabird tracking. Ringer, baker, runner. views my own.
1/6 #BOUasm22#SESH1 Including additional information such as habitat to biological recording schemes is challenging as there isn’t one simple solution. There are certain questions that need to be raised, so we developed a framework to help scheme organisers with this issue.
6/6 #BOUasm22#SESH 3: So far I’ve only touched on a small part of the overall project, here's a summary of some of the other areas of work- either on going or soon to be. Thanks very much to everyone involved & to #EuroBirdPortal for their data!#BTOScience#Ornithology
1/6 #BOUasm22#SESH 3 Here I'm using #EuroBirdPortal data (https://t.co/FpgoT97e59) to determine start and end dates of spring 💐 and autumn 🍂 migration for 30 European-African migrant 🐦. #BTOScience@EBCC
5/6 #BOUasm22#SESH 3 For 🍂 we used a similar method and it worked well for 60% species but had issues for some species and areas due to crypsis during moult and different departure times of juveniles and adults. We've also tried several other methods to no avail.
Great to see @_BTO lead author @_KatePlummer on @Channel4News this evening explaining findings of @NatureComms peer-reviewed research on long-term effects of garden bird feeding @BTO_GBW https://t.co/fO8AFe7Va9
Excited to announce a bird sound recording workshop to be held in March 2019, run by @simon_gillings, Ryan Irvine and I. @_BTO headquarters in Thetford on Saturday 23/3. Ideal for anyone thinking about getting into #nocmig. Full details and booking: https://t.co/dP5LzjN3fr
Really great talk by @harris_sjh on the fantastic study of Arctic Skuas on @FI_Obs and Orkney. The FI birds are travelling much further to forage than Orkney birds, and productivity lower on FI #BTOconf18@KittiwakeGirl
@LandEthics@Alexander_Lees@_BTO Pheasants? Yes they were included in the analysis. None of the UK had suitable climate for pheasants but that doesn't seem to hold them back!
1 #BOU18TC I'm Jenni Border, Spatial Ecologist at @_BTO.
Non-native species are currently being introduced to the UK at an alarming rate. Some of these are invasive, and can cause damage to the environment, the economy and our health.

1 #BOU18TC The @_BTO are attempting to look at why Arctic Skuas are the most rapidly declining seabird species in the UK. In 2017, we initiated a tracking programme to look at where they are foraging during the summer and where they spend the winter.

1.#BOU18TC Things we know about #birdsong: sexually selected; females prefer exaggerated traits; timing of song learning & development of brain structures occurs when chicks are exposed to a number of potential stressors. #developmentalstresshypothesis#stress#ornithology
1 #BOU18TC Despite ⬆️ literature on effects of #urbanisation on #birds few studies have assessed how fine-scale changes WITHIN complex cityscapes affect breeding 🕑 & success. We research the impact of “#urbangradients” on Blue tit breeding & interactions with other env factors.

Often, conservation competes with food production by promoting less intensive farming and/or unfarmed reserves
Given that food production is essential for human wellbeing, what’s the best way of reconciling this trade-off?
To share, or spare; that is the question
