An inspiring meeting in Leeds hosted by @jewishleeds and@#leedsleadsagainstantisemitism . Local dignitaries and faith leaders joined us to show that antisemitism wouldn't be tolerated in Leeds or anywhere else.
“There is no good reason people should be bidding on Nazi pocket knives, SS skull insignias, and Hitler Youth membership badges. The buying and selling of these items has no place in our society and, in the context of rising far-right antisemitism, is sinister and deeply concerning.
“We strongly urge Gilbert Baitson to withdraw these items from auction, as have other auction houses such as McTear’s, Bloomfield Auctions, and Vermot de Pas. We also urge the government to ban the sale of such items entirely.” – Andrew Gilbert, Vice President
“We deplore the way a section of the crowd treated the Co-Chief Executive Rabbis of Progressive Judaism today, and that they were asked to leave the stage.”
Our full comment on scenes at the hostage rally today:
Board of Deputies CEO @MichaelWegier spoke to @VanessaBaffoe on @LBC News this morning about the @CST_UK’s latest Antisemitic Incidents Report.
"The level of antisemitic incidents in the UK remains at a worrying rate with the Jewish community under a level of threat not seen before the attacks on 7th October 2023. We thank the CST for their efforts to keep the community safe and will continue to work with the government, police and other agencies to ensure that every effort is being made to maintain the protection that our community unfortunately needs."
Board of Deputies President @PhilR_R was on @BBCRadio4 this morning to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the images of hostage Evyatar David recently published by Hamas and the need export peace rather than importing conflict when engaging in discussion about the Middle East.
It was great to represent @BoardofDeputies at Collabor8 Bury and showcase the Jewish Living Experience Exhibition and educate about Judaism. Many people visited our stall including NHS workers, police and people of other faiths. 1/2
Very positive @BoardofDeputies conversation with @ace_national about supporting Jewish artists against discrimination and celebrating the Jewish contribution to UK culture. Great discussion about the first-ever British Jewish Culture Month, due next year.

Board of Deputies President @PhilR_R told BBC News why the recommendations made by co-Chairs of the Commission on Antisemitism, Lord Mann and Dame Penny Mordaunt, are so important for the Jewish community.
“We are extremely concerned that within days of the BBC’s damning report into their flawed documentary ‘Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone’, the CEO of news Deborah Turness appears to be obfuscating and minimising the BBC’s failings.”

Wonderful to catch up with @SCoJeC (JCOS) colleagues yesterday at @BoardofDeputies HQ, discussing how to support our communities across Scotland. 🏴
Thanks to @FCDOGovUK@Lord_Collins and @dsnorthnorth for today’s event setting out the UK’s approach to freedom of religion or belief internationally.
We spoke about the need to protect Kosher and Halal meat from attack across Europe.
Vice President @AndrewGilbert1 spoke at the 20th anniversary celebration of @AppgBritSikhs last night. We are working closely with @PreetKGillMP to ensure that Jews and Sikhs are recognised as ethnic groups in Government statistics.
“The @BBC has to answer” our Vice President @AndrewGilbert1 was on @BBCNews earlier this afternoon. He spoke about how the Jewish community responded to Glastonbury and the work we’re doing to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Take a look 👇

“We welcome the decision to proscribe Palestine Action. Their actions over recent months had become increasingly egregious, targeting Jewish charities and statues, and encouraging acts of violence and vandalism.” @philr_r
