I've never even been to China.

I'm curious what they're going to accuse me of next.

I'm sure I'm going to see a TV ad saying that I've been impeached by my own party, that I own 15 homes on a government salary. I'm sure there's gonna be an ad saying I stole someone's $1,000 pen.

The Daily Beast identifies the public demand for answers, but overlooks the central institutional issue. Senate Standing Rule VI states that “No Senator shall absent himself from the service of the Senate without leave,” while Article I, Section 5 of the Constitution authorizes the Senate to compel attendance and discipline its members.

There is also precedent. After Senator Karl Mundt suffered a debilitating stroke in 1969, Senate leaders intervened and removed him from his committee assignments. Therefore, the question extends beyond demanding a “proof-of-life” photograph or video: Why has Senate Majority Leader John Thune not publicly explained whether McConnell’s prolonged absence was formally authorized, whether McConnell remains capable of directing his office, and what institutional action the Senate is taking? The American people deserve transparency and accountable representation.
