Ctenophores have been blooming in the sea off Plymouth for the last two weeks. They swim among the plankton using eight rows of comb-like plates of giant, fused cilia, hence their other name is comb jellies. @zeiss_micro

Sea gooseberries are blooming right now in the sea off Plymouth. They are ctenophores or comb jellies and called Pleurobrachia pileus, they are voracious predators and eat a lot of other zooplankton, especially copepods. @zeiss_micro
