Frailty Assessment and Management in Oncology Services
A "Why" and a "How" guideline
Published by @RCRadiologists today with input from @macmillancancer@SIOGorg@GeriSoc
Frailty is everyone's business

With this in mind, in a @LeedsHospitals oncology project we have re-named our frailty assessment as a 'wellbeing assessment' - much better received by patients - but we're still figuring out how to best discuss frailty with patients once identified @dswinson3@sherena_nair
Does #frailty need a new name?
.@saahopkins and colleagues consider the pros and cons of renaming frailty and recommend greater inclusion of older people in deciding how best to talk about the condition

Yet more evidence that simple frailty tools (inc CFS) have prognostic value in patients with cancer. So pleased to see this published - congratulations to @VanitaNoronha and the team at @TataMemorial
Read it for free until 19th April: https://t.co/oTKxsoOkXO
Key finding: "Patients fit on CFS (CFS 1–2) had a median survival of 28.02 months, pre-frail (CFS 3–4) 13.24 months, and frail (CFS ≥5) 7.79 months (p < 0.001)." - valuable info for interpreting CFS scores cancer patients @dswinson3@AlastairGreyst2@mary_denholm@FabioGomes_Go

@sandradyer_05 100%!! Assessment of frailty should start as soon as a patient presents with cancer symptoms (often in primary care!) + community teams have a key role in holistic care for patients affected by both cancer and frailty
@BarrottLisa@SurreySussexCA Fantastic to have the platform to give an introduction to frailty assessment and management in the #UKONS2023 workshop today! More in the new guidance https://t.co/1M5PFAHWjZ (+ appendix 5 signposts to frailty training/resources for anyone interested in learning more!)
Thank you so much to @UKONSmember@VernaLavender@BarrottLisa + Debbie for including+ facilitating a breakout session on frailty assessment at #UKONS2023 - it's fantastic to see growing interest in #frailty and #gerionc, which are increasingly making it onto the national agenda!
Thank you so much to everyone that joined our frailty assessment workshop at #UKONS2023. If you missed it, fear not - you can check out our new UK guidance which outlines 'why' and 'how' to assess and manage frailty oncology online at: https://t.co/1M5PFAHWjZ
Excellent session on importance of frailty assessments in cancer care & the vital role of the MDT, with Dr Cassandra Ng & Dr Jess Pearce #UKONS2023 @UHSussex @SurreySussexCA
@NeilPasricha Yes! On a mission to unsubscribe from personal spam I have inadvertently signed up to, but even in my uni inbox I am inundated with academic spam (invites to present at conferences and submit to journals) - it is increasingly difficult to differentiate between real and fake!
If you're interested in this new guidance about frailty assessment and management in oncology, then you'll probably also be interested in the oncogeriatrics stream at our autumn meeting. It's not too late to register for in person or online attendance. https://t.co/If7YxWt7Sm
