“It bothers me when people don’t recognise a footballer’s skill. It infuriates me because they do recognise a bicycle kick, since not everyone can do one, or a volley, or something spectacular.

But they don’t realise that hitting an 80 yard diagonal pass with a winger running behind the full back requires precision.

You have to make sure the ball gets past the winger and drops perfectly into the full back’s space. You need to visualise where the ball should land, calculate the player’s speed, beat the right back, time the pass perfectly, and have 360 degree vision, not just forward.

@AdvFtbAcad I try to do this with my boys and I got negative feedback from Club officials that my drills are to advanced and that I need to dumb it down. All they are doing is moving more. I guess movement equals advanced in their eyes.

@mattdanaher When does the defender ever go out wide before pressing you. That press is coming straight from the back in game. The player turning always has the advantage because the defender has to choose a side to press from.
