Galkayo conflict transformation is an example for us, we can get out of conflict and transform relationships. Galkayo case begs research by Somali and int’l peacebuilders.
Youth in the lead!
Below is an article I wrote about Galkayo almost 7 yrs ago.

I commend the @TheGPBF which ended today. It is a symbol of peace that is lit by the community of the region, and it is very important for the community to be aware of peace and how important it is to all of us.
Galkayo teaches us and the world lessons from genuine, locally-owned, concerted efforts by different societal groups & int’lly supported conflict transformation.
Fore-conciliation (rather than getting stuck in “re”-conciliation) is the way forward.
Past divides, future unites!
I commend the @TheGPBF which ended today. It is a symbol of peace that is lit by the community of the region, and it is very important for the community to be aware of peace and how important it is to all of us.
Warmest congratulations Hon. Suldan Said. Well deserved position and we will all work and support you. Pekka has done commendable remarkable work in that same role, when the Horn was burning. I am confident that you will fill a big gap.
Count on us @Haavisto
On 8 July, Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka @Haavisto appointed Member of Parliament Suldaan Said Ahmed as his Special Representative on Peace Mediation in the Horn of Africa ⤵️ @suldaansaid

This drawing by a Somali artist shows how we grow the systems e.g. corrupt governments and culture that destroy us.
THINK!
Maasha Allah!

More peace insha Allah
Hi Roger, I am one of those students of peacebuilding & re/fore-conciliation indicators.
Has this book been published yet?
Like the cover page. It shows how resilient ordinary people are to conflict - they keep growing and becoming mature in the middle of violent conflicts
Great meeting w/ @FinlandinSom 🇫🇮🇸🇴 on our common commitment to strengthen role of #SomaliYouth for peace & reconciliation. #Finland is a global leader in #Youth4Peace and just adopted a solid National Action Plan on YPS, guiding domestic & foreign policy: https://t.co/2td24a92B3
Masha Allah!
One of the best 21st century ideas of peacebuilding. Peace can’t be sustained with firefighting reactions and addressing emergent conflicts. It needs to be nurtured with knowledge, wisdom and integration.
This bookfair is excellent idea for peaceful Galkayo
Galkacyo set to host its first annual Peace Book Fair themed “Sustainable Peace”. The event will be held on 15-16 October 2021. Save the date and stay turned for details.

Maasha Allah!
This is the trait of genuine resilient leader. Turning the hurt to healing, the pain to passion and anger to love. I salute you walal halyey Hassan Awad! Allah has granted you very big heart. You are truly hero.
Count me in walal. You deserve our support.
@Abeer Foundation is named after my daughter Abeer Hassan Awad, who, together with her siblings, experienced a gun attack in Mogadishu, Somalia. This painful ordeal occurred on 16th August 2017, leaving her visually impaired and her brother paralyzed. #staytuned
Story-telling is very powerful. By listening to what happened to others, you reflect your own pain, and, whenever you hear more severe pains, you get healed through the process. I personally suffered, however, I learned there are more who suffered more than me. I gain healing.
Q4.b. In your experience, what are some strategies that helped you in your healing journey?

Simply, Genuine reconciliation efforts MUST BE DE-PROJECTIZED! De-NGO-ize the process!
"Well, who is going to fund it?"
Simply put. Were the Somalis funded to hate & kill each other, in the first place? funded by NGOs? Nay! They must fund their peace as they funded their wars!
First, we need to recognize that we need to heal! Someone never takes doctors advise or the prescribed bills until he/she is convinced that he/she is sick! So, experts must expose the problem.
Aan garawsanno boogaha innagu yaal! Sida daaruhu u burbureen innagaa ka daran!
Independent and inclusive commission that consists of true peacebuilders that represent different sectors of the Somali society, non-political, non-partial, voluntary and with context-informed plans that are truly Somali-led, owned and driven - among other mechanisms, I think!
Women can be part in every level and aspect incl. design, implementation & consolidation. They are highly skilled in awareness raising, sensitizing communities and leadership. We all remember their efficient role they had in mobilizing people for the kacaan - "hooyooyinka"
Well. We can twist the question and ask, what genuine reconciliation can take place without women? It is well known fact that women view peace and conflict completely different, more comprehensive than reactionary compared to men who look to immediate responses! Women can ...
