Pinning a thread of my Twitter highlights, starting with my very recent work on @FortniteGame, redoing their gyro controls and adding flick stick. This has been a hugely rewarding experience!

We've added new and improved gyro controls along with flick stick on the platforms that support it.
Made in collaboration with input specialist and flick stick creator @JibbSmart, check out the video for all of the details of what's new!

@EpicPieFac3619 Probably true, but most controllers have great motion sensors, as do almost all phones, and most people don't have steering wheels. Innovation with what people already have is worthwhile too :)

There's a stigma against tilt steering, because most of us only know it from games that are designed for slamming your stick in either direction and sliding to control your turn. Mario Kart is great with sticks.
But when precision matters, motion is a huge upgrade!
@ChimpSquared Have you tried 2D Steering with the thumbstick? Rotating the stick gets you out of the deadzone and gives you more range of movement with the thumb.
Touch is underutilized too, I'm sure

All about driving. This video covers my contributions to the latest version of JSM, including some tips for #gamedev looking to add the same to their games:
- 2D Steering
- Motion Steering
- Winding Stick Steering
@dixienormu92374@PloxScary@Hogman If aim assist reacted to enemies you couldn't see, you could use it to figure out where they are, so we definitely need to turn off aim assist for targets that aren't visible :)
But I see that it doesn't look correct here. We'll look into that
@t3enyFN@t3enyFN I think we have a fix. Not much changed in 40.30, but there was something that meant aim assist would be interrupted during some actions.
It's not something we can hotfix, but will likely be fixed in 40.40.
@TheGingerBill@Kappische Grateful to see this kinda ratio on a gyro take. Seemed impossible 10 years ago when I was first trying it through Steam and wondering why it wasn't a bigger thing
