People said the same thing when we spent £440,000 on Kenny Dalglish, then £40M on Mohamed Salah. While both Dalglish and Salah hit the ground running and went on to become club legends, others took a while, but also became if not club legends, certainly iconic. I’ve seen everyone on this list play, and they’re all legends to me.
Ian Rush: We spent £300k in 1980, which at the time was a British record fee for a teenager and it took him a season to settle in.
Terry McDermott cost us £170k in 1974 and at that time, our record fee was £180k. It took him a couple of seasons to hit his stride.
Ray Kennedy: The club record I referred to above of £180k was paid for him in 1974 and it took him over a season to hit his stride.
Steve Nicol: We paid a daft £300k for a part-timer from Ayr United for a 19 year old. Took him almost two years to find his feet. He didn’t turn out too shabby did he?
Jordan Henderson: My captain. £16M or so to Sunderland for a 20 year old with only one PL season behind him. It took him almost three seasons to get into his stride. Remember? And he ended up one of our greatest captains of all time.
Bobby Firmino. £29M made him our second most expensive signing after Andy Carroll at that time. Took him most of the first few months to get going but that was because Rigers didn’t know how to use him. Anyway. He didn’t turn out too bad either.
Patience. Support. Belief.
And if they don’t work out we let them go with grace and dignity. Unless they screw us over then it’s open season of course. But we reds have big hearts. Let’s prove it.
Supporting Palestine cannot be the moral compass.
I’m sorry, but it’s weird how y’all overlook other countries suffering the same tragedies and genocides
But as long as you support Palestine, you are the epitome of a good person, and you deserve to be worshipped
Just like rats on dopamine.
We can fight for everything but our lives and that of our children.
The ones that finally enter we shout "thank God" like God is so degenerate to make this the default of how his sons and daughters live. We are just too useless to the grand plan for humanity.
Bunch of Bozos. The other day the lady fought for the unavailability of BRT, I'm certain a few useless people here called her names because this life is just perfect for them. Conquered fools!!!
I've been searching for the right term to describe the phenomenon I see across the developing world but haven't found it yet...
We point to the skyscrapers and luxury malls of the various capital cities as proof of progress in Africa, forgetting that these places are where banks, government institutions, foreign capital, international aid agencies, NGOs, and the wealthiest citizens, are concentrated all in just one small area.
The real test is what happens when you leave that small bubble.
In Japan or much of Western Europe, for example, development and modernity doesn't vanish 10 kilometers out of the capital city. The roads, water, schools, and hospitals continue almost across the country. In much of Africa, on the other hand, the infrastructure drop off is DRASTIC. One minute you're in Acacia Mall and the next minute you're back in the stone age after just a 5 minute drive away from the city centre.
That's why gleaming snapshots such as this photo are so misleading.
A country isn't developed because modernity exists in some small pocket of affluence and wealth in ita capital city. Development is about how widely that modernity is distributed. Africa fails in that regard.
Let me also add that it’s not a lack of infrastructure that makes many Nigerian universities not do this. They simply don’t do this because it would be too easy for students, and as Nigerians, it’s our duty to make things as difficult for everyone as possible.
The West will assassinate your local government chairman if he fixes the roof of the primary school. That’s why the students are learning under the sun. 🤷🏽♀️🙄
This beast killed my primary school friends, six of my neighbours and he almost killed me too.
Christmas Day, 2011.
I was at St. Theresa's Catholic Church fetching water from their borehole because December is usually dry season in the North. Harmattan, dry skin and dry wells.
Our neighbours who were Catholics were already inside the church, singing and dancing. I think Father Achi was the one in charge of the parish back then and was presiding over the service.
I was with my wheelbarrow that i used in carrying water i fetched at the back of the priest's quarters when my friends saw me. They were outside buying sweets from the Hausa vendors.
We linked up for a bit. We talked. We laughed. After some time, they told me they were going inside because it was time for them to give their offerings.
I picked up my wheelbarrow and started leaving while they ran back to the church and that was when i heard the blast.
My ears immediately went deaf.
The force of the explosion pushed me to the ground. My gallons fell over and water started leaking everywhere.
I was in a trance.
I could see the smoke.
I could see people running towards the church and some out of it.
But I couldn't hear anything.
It was completely silent.
And that was when I saw them.
My friends.
Lying on the floor close to the church entrance.
The same boys I had just been laughing with a few seconds earlier.
Kalu.
John.
Ben.
Samson.
Tony.
That was when i stood up and ran home crying.
I was a child. I didn't understand terrorism. I didn't understand religious extremism. I didn't understand why somebody would want to blow up a church on Christmas Day.
That day changed something in me forever. This isn't something I read about in the news.
I was there.
And somehow, I survived.
People talk about terrorism in Nigeria using numbers.
How many people died.
How many were injured.
How many churches were attacked.
But behind every number are people with actual names.
People who had friends.
People who had families.
People who were supposed to go home that Christmas afternoon.
i've been watching my brother teach himself electrical and mechanical engineering so he can build a device that automatically detects deer and sprays them with water when they are in his yard. He has no engineering or math background at all. It's just driven by the hatred
We're told to be kind to young men, protect mental health, then a fuck-ton of accounts take the piss out of a young, talented footballer because of something completely out of his control that he's suffered with his entire life. Just fuck off.
my dad was a fucking rocket engineer who taught me something that made me RICH
wasn't some soft ass "believe in yourself" bs
it was QUICK MATH (keep reading it's saucy)
this man ran calculations for missile trajectories in the military. could tell you impact coordinates in his head while other guys needed computers. but he'd say "close enough is better than perfect too late"
"347 divided by 45? about 7. move the fuck on."
he'd make me calculate brutal equations instantly. not perfectly. INSTANTLY. because in real situations perfect math gets you killed while you're calculating
meanwhile you common folk are sitting with your calculator app making sure you got the EXACT answer while opportunities are flying past at 1000mph
this is why you're easy to kill in business...
you're trying to be PRECISE when you need to be FAST
business decision? you want 22 spreadsheets and three consultants' opinions. your competitor already launched, failed, pivoted, and is banking while you're on slide 73 of your market analysis like some soft as baby shit analyst
pricing your service? you're researching statistics for weeks. just pick a fucking number that scares you and TEST IT. wrong? change it tomorrow. you lost one day not six months.
"but what if i'm wrong?"
YOU WILL BE WRONG YOU FUCKING MORON
difference is i'm wrong in 5 seconds and correct in 10. you're still thinking about maybe being wrong next year while i'm already counting money
my first agency? picked price out of thin air. $5k/month felt insane. someone paid instantly. raised to $10k next day. then $20k. found the ceiling in 3 weeks.
you would've surveyed 100 people and ended up at $2k because that's what the statistics said was "reasonable"
quick math beats perfect math EVERY FUCKING TIME
hiring? meet them, trust your gut, done. "but what about background checks..." shut up. you know in 10 minutes if someone's solid or soft as baby shit. everything else is corporate theater.
launching products? ship at 70% and fix it live. "but what if..." what if you die waiting for perfect? at least i'm getting paid while fixing bugs instead of perfecting something nobody wants.
here's what overthinking really is: FEAR dressed up as intelligence
you're not being thorough. you're being a PUSSY, you want spreadsheets to blame when shit fails instead of owning your decisions like someone who isn't easy to kill
fuck your process.
347 divided by 45? about 7
should i hire this broad? she seems hungry? hired.
should i fire this client? they annoy me? gone.
should i raise prices? feeling poor? doubled.
CLOSE ENOUGH IS GOOD ENOUGH
perfect is for common folk who die with perfect plans. done is for killers who die with results.
i watch people spend 6 months on business plans that are worthless the second reality hits. my business plan was "make money." took 2 seconds. still works.
you know what matters? VELOCITY not accuracy.
100 decisions at 70% accuracy beats 10 decisions at 95% accuracy. because those 100 decisions taught you what actually works while your statistics are still theoretical
my competitors still calculating unit economics while i've tested 20 offers and found the one that prints. they have better spreadsheets. i have better everything else.
quick math principle applies to everything:
relationships? you know in 10 seconds if a broad is worth your time. stop needing 6 months of data to "be sure"
investments? thesis makes sense and founder isn't soft? send it. your due diligence is just procrastination with a fancy name
opportunities? someone offers you something that could work? say yes figure it out later. "but the statistics say..." statistics are for people easy to kill
here's the truth: your best educated guess RIGHT NOW beats your perfect answer NEVER
because while you're calculating, killers are DOING. while you're analyzing statistics, they're creating them. while you're planning, they're already celebrating.
347 divided by 45?
about 7.
good enough.
NEXT.
that's the yegor method. quick math. violent execution. adjust on the fly.
everything else is mental masturbation that common folk use to feel smart while staying broke
my dad could calculate missile impacts in his head but knew "close enough" beats "perfect too late"
a "close enough" nuke skill decimates a city. a nuke that never launches does ZERO
now make that fucking decision you've been sitting on. your gut already knows. stop pretending you need more data.
study the yegor method.
People are already assuming Malick Yalcouye is using "football age" because he's African and his hairline.. Here he is in 2020 at 14 alongside Newcastle's Bazoumana Touré.
Both were products of the ASEC Mimosas/MimoSifcom academy in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
