@rjhintz@MAC_VSOG There was a Hoa mentioned in Dick Thompson's book as the pointman but this was after 5 Oct 1968 and this just my speculation, this Hoa could be referring to Hua A. Loc. Hua and Hoa in Vietnamese have the same pronunciation but different spellings
@rjhintz@MAC_VSOG Some of their team roles were mentioned in WTF, while some like Du I crossed reference from Dick Thompson's book "SOG Codename Dynamite", where the team roster is mostly the same minus Hoa and Cuong.
@TheReconCast@MAC_VSOG Technically 6 Vs 10k. Tail gunner Cuong, the last guy to be fatally wounded was still in the fight till the extraction where he was barely holding on with .45 till he asked Black to leave him.
@MAC_VSOG His name was Yuk. He was said to be 18 year and the team's shamen if I recall. This particular pick was taken after the team was shot out of an LZ, can't recall the year.
@MAC_VSOG Next to him is his Bru interpreter, Bong, who was unfortunately said to been killed in his village in Mai Loc during the Battle of Quang Tri 1972.
@arvntroop He's possibly just a regular CSDC police that picked up a possibly fallen Ranger's helmet for protection since the 2 units were working relatively close to each other during the Tet Offensive, that's my theory.
@hide3mk2 Unfortunately whoever posted this photo first, used AI to restore the original black and white photo. It was actually unmodified XM177E2 and now this colourised photo is circulating around social media as an original image.
@aviationarchive@hkugrad@aviationarchive could I ask where's the source for this footage? I've messaged a few SOG vets and read in an article and a SOG book that the skyhook was never used by SOG.
@lianfengzdm@joeblillib4090 The officer on the right and the soldier behind him are ARVN Marines (the Marine emblem is clearly shown in their left arm sleeves), the one with the Uzi is from the field police
@nyan_nyan719 Whole heartedly agree with you with the TQLC and regular airborne. I guess the film makers needed some unit that fits their martial art fight scenes, so they chose the LLDB cuz they're Special Forces lol.
@nyan_nyan719 Though not all soldiers of the 81st wore the LLDB patch ( for reasons I don't know). I'm not sure what uniforms they were wearing in the film, but some of the web equipment look like ALICE but I could be wrong.
The 81st wore a mix of Tigerstripe and leaf camo
@nyan_nyan719 Albeit, poorly. However, the 81st were busy at An Loc and only came to Quang Tri after the Battle of An Loc was over. Regarding uniforms in the film, if they were portraying the 81st: the LLDB patch should be on the right arm and the 81st patch on the left.
