Rewatching it now, the advice feels even more relevant in today’s startup market.

The early days of building a startup are really, really hard.

Probably one of the hardest things I've ever done.

But here's the thing people don't talk about enough:

Even the later years don't get that much easier.

You add new products.

Your customer-base grows.

Your success attracts new competitors.

You get a once-in-a-lifetime, "this changes everything" tech shift like A.I. that comes around.

If you're going to do a startup, you have to love the game, not the grandiose idea that once you've "made it", you can sit on the beach and sip margaritas.

@HubSpot is in year 18 right now. We've had some modest success, but dealing with new, even bigger challenges.

Scaling a company is fun, as long as you think furiously working to stay relevant is fun. 😅

In five years, AI-driven disruption may come more from startups optimizing operations than products. Large companies seem advanced but often aren’t. A startup can improve inbound lead response in days; a big company takes months. Most founders miss this edge. AI-native orgs may be the real disruptors.
