"What AI Will Never Do." My new @PsychToday article explores why AI will never be able to do therapy:
AI can simulate empathy, and it can simulate therapy. But it doesn't actually do either, as it doesn't understand and it cannot relate 👇

Causal Principles in Material Constitution: A Philosophical Inquiry into the Composition of Objects - Article (Preprint v2) by Johan Gamper | Qeios https://t.co/gPYTuWDMxm
@PhysInHistory Johan Gamper. (2023). Metaphysics uniting theology and science — back to the basics (as in back to the basic assumptions). Qeios. doi:10.32388/JS5Z04.2.
“We define a set of things of one singular kind as the set of all things that can causally affect one another. To enable causal interaction between such sets, we define a thing that is of a non-singular kind as consisting of more than one singular kind.” https://t.co/1ABwh81yOM
@jordicat Good job! If you’re interested I’ve tried to find a foundation for the next step, to unite science and theology. The key I’m exploring is to expand the number of basic assumptions. (Gamper, 2023, https://t.co/FSBGoPOSdJ.

@anitaleirfall Yes! But it is solvable, though. In this paper I let it be about whether we can save causal closure without giving up on the possibility of dualism/pluralism. https://t.co/9m3bwS8oEw
@waldenpod … like seeing and hearing? The difference, though, is that we know what it is that sees and hears, the biological object. But what is the experiencing subject that has conscious sensations? Or is there no such?

If you (actually) allow things made up of things of more than one kind of things a domain of the latter kind can permit coexistence of, say, mathematical and physical things, without violating causal closure.

Hi John,
Thanks for sharing your book. I especially noticed this passage:
“This is what we are shooting for. I want a theory that says consciousness just is X, with no remainder. Is that fair?”
