HE SAID NO TO MILLIONS. 💰🚫 The legacy of Thor Vikström. For 50 years, developers hounded this 93-year-old Quebecer with massive offers to buy his 7-acre island, ile Ronde. They wanted luxury high-rises and bridges. 🏗️
Thor's response? He donated the entire island for FREE to the Nature Conservancy of Canada. 💚
Why? Because the island is home to the rare Northern Map Turtle and ancient Shagbark Hickory trees.🌳 🐢
Quote: "Nature was more important than some stupid money in my pocket." 🇨🇦
Let's thank Thor for having protected one of Canada's "natural jewels" for our grandkids! 🙏

I'm no constitutional scholar, but I'm pretty sure if you bypass Congress and start a war to distract from being a pedophile, you are required to send your spawn to the front lines.

@NatureUnedited Fun fact. The fur that makes up the black spots is a completely different softer texture than the rest of the coat. (I got a chance to pet one on a visit to South Africa)
And the provinces? Do they have any responsibility to stay in their lane? They’re happy to take federal money, indeed to instruct the feds how to spend it, but then balk at living up to the conditions. They continue to balkanize the internal common market, 158 years after Confederation was supposed to have ended the practice, even as they demand a say in international trade negotiations. They pass flagrantly unconstitutional laws asserting jurisdiction they do not have, then denounce Ottawa’s “domineering federalism.” They run roughshod over the Charter of Rights, then complain that it is the federal government that is violating the 1982 “bargain.”
The notion that in this, the world’s most decentralized federation, the problem is an overbearing federal government — when that government is paralyzed even to enforce the little jurisdiction that it possesses — is … hard to square with reality.
Fact check: No, U.S. oil tankers do not pass through the Hecate Strait. @ElizabethMay shows exactly why the tanker ban exists, and why protecting it matters.
🚨NEW: Legendary Singer Neil Young has announced that he is removing his music from Amazon Music due to founder Jeff Bezos' support for Donald Trump.
RETWEET to thank @NeilYoung for standing up for our democracy!
If Premier @ABDanielleSmith and Prime Minister @MarkJCarney achieve their ambition and produce, sell, and burn every cubic metre, barrel, and ton of fossil fuel in the oil sands, humankind will not be able to effectively beat the climate heating crisis.
This will be true even if every other country in the world reduces its GHG emissions to zero.
That's how much stored CO2 is in the oil sands.
The safest place for Canada's fossil fuels is in the ground.
🚨 CANADA’S DEMOCRACY 🚨
In recent a days I’ve monitored an organized and coordinated campaign to discredit our federal elections in Canada. If you value Canadian social cohesion and the integrity of our democratic process, please take a moment to read and share this critical information about how our elections are safeguarded:
On election night, when votes are tallied at polling stations, representatives from each political party are present as scrutineers. These representatives observe the counting process to ensure accuracy & fairness. Additionally, a Returning Officer appointed by Elections Canada, oversees the proceedings with the party representatives present at each polling station to verify that procedures are followed correctly.
In the event of a recount - whether triggered automatically due to a close result or requested by a candidate the following happens:
Recounts take place at designated facilities, with party representatives and the Returning Officer present. Furthermore, a Judge oversees the recount to ensure impartiality & adherence to legal standards, providing an additional layer of oversight.
This multi-tiered system of checks & balances is a cornerstone of Canada’s electoral integrity. By understanding and sharing how our elections are protected, you can help foster trust in our democratic institutions and combat misinformation and disinformation
🇨🇦 Let’s work together to uphold the strength of Canada’s democracy!
Please share this message widely to inform others and promote unity.
"At no point in the process can a party skew or alter votes in a recount. Asking for a recount is not a manipulation of the process. At no point can a party ‘tip the scales.’
It is important to point this out because the undermining of trust in our electoral process – a process that is free, fair, and accurate – would be deeply damaging to Canada, particularly at a time when outside forces are seeking to divide us."
Canada votes tomorrow, and it is blessed to have one of the most fair, secure and accessible voting systems of any democracy.
Here's how:
1) Paper Based: every ballot is paper-based and counted by hand. Each ballot is secured by a signature from the local poll officer, so ballot stuffing is impossible.
2) Open Counting - every candidate can send observers (scrutineers) to watch the count, ensuring that it is accurate. I've volunteered to do this many times. Ballot boxes are opened and the ballots placed on a table, and counted in front of everyone.
3) Voter-ID - Every eligible voter gets a voting card in the mail telling them where to vote. This is based on a central voters list which is automatically compiled and updated based on tax returns and other info. This card serves as their ID. If they don't get a card in the mail, they can get added to the voters list with photo ID and a recent bill showing their address. There's no controversy over 'voter-ID' that there is in the US, and no attempts to keep voters off the list.
4) Accessible and Neutral - No election materials are allowed in or near polling stations. Polling stations are everywhere, well advertised, and often walking distance in towns and cities.
5) Limited Corporate Money - No corporate or union donations are allowed for any candidate. They can only accept personal donations, which are capped at $1750 a year, and parties get a subsidy from the government based on how many votes they got in the last election.
6) No Gerrymandering - Electoral districts are set by a non-partisan committee every 10 years, and are fairly simple geometric shapes, nothing like what we see in the US.
Make sure to get out and vote tomorrow!
CBC/Radio-Canada is a pillar of our Canadian identity.
We’re going to strengthen our public broadcaster with more long-term funding, and a modernized mandate — to deliver more local news and keep Canadians better informed during emergencies.

Danielle Smith and her Breitbart interview just LOST Poilieve the election.
She confirms amongst her MAGA friends that Pierre is “Very much in synch with everything the Trump administration is doing.”
Canadians agree.
Poilieve is done. And so is she.

Whenever you see a post describing or depicting large crowds coming out to resist Trump's agenda, you should re-tweet it. The algos are set to suppress such posts. People are being led to believe that Americans are passive to Trump, if not supportive. That is increasingly untrue.
For the record, the consumer carbon tax was never divisive in Canada.
What was--and remains--divisive are @PierrePoilievre and other Conservative politicians who systemically lied about the federal carbon pricing regime.
How about we put the blame on the bad politicians, rather than the good policy.
