A legal challenge has been issued against the Government’s SEND reform consultation. The challenge highlights concerns about proposed changes to EHC plans, limits on access to and enforceability of specialist provision, and significant changes to the powers of the SEND Tribunal and rights of appeal - which are all concerns we share at IPSEA.

We will be following the progress of this legal challenge very closely, given the significance of the proposals currently being consulted on and the impact these would have on the legal rights of children and young people with SEND.

Some SEN children can succeed in a mainstream school but plenty can’t. Some need unit provision, some need specialist provision, some need extended day, some need EOTAS/EOTIS. That’s the point. All children are different. Trying to fit everybody into mainstream cannot work #SEN

Give schools the budget & flexibility to put on a curriculum that matches their pupils interests & skills not a one-size fits all!

I wonder if #BridgitPhillipson would share a bit more detail on the schools she visited doing a great job of sen inclusion- not saying it doesn’t happen, but I’m sure many of us would love to benefit from success stories which are few and far..

I’d be willing to bet these schools are taking a radical approach to whole school education rather than trying to fit children with additional needs into a universal system which already fails a large majority of children…
