NEW: 🇷🇴 Romania has recovered eight pieces of drone debris across the Black Sea coast and nearby areas of Tulcea and Constanța today, while the remains of four drones were also identified. Two pieces were found with explosive charges.
The first discovery came at 13:30 in the Câșla Vădanei area of Tulcea County, between Sulina and Sfântu Gheorghe. Romanian EOD specialists examined two drone fragments that had washed ashore. Neither contained explosives.
Then, at 15:18, authorities intervened in the Periteașca area, where Border Police had discovered two more drone fragments on the beach at around 09:30, one of the fragments contained an explosive charge and was safely neutralized by an SRI pyrotechnic team. The second was taken by the Coast Guard.
At 16:00, the situation moved into the Black Sea itself. A commercial vessel reported two drone fragments floating in the water, approximately 46 nautical miles east of Midia. A Coast Guard patrol vessel recovered both pieces, and specialists determined they posed no pyrotechnic danger.
Then came the most significant discovery of the day.
At 17:55, near Edighiol–Periboina in Constanța County, Romanian EOD personnel were searching for a suspicious object reported by the Coast Guard when they spotted the remains of four drones from a helicopter.
Among those remains was an interceptor drone carrying explosives. All identified elements were secured and neutralized.
So today’s discoveries involved eight reported pieces of drone debris, alongside the remains of four drones found in the Edighiol–Periboina area. Importantly, explosive material was still present on two recovered pieces, requiring specialized Romanian teams to intervene.

🇾🇪🇸🇦 Six districts captured in operation against Saudi-backed forces in western Yemen, Ansarallah says
Ansarallah said Friday that the group had taken control of six districts across Taiz and Hodeidah governorates, covering some 5,400 square kilometers, during a large-scale military operation launched on September 3 to expel Saudi-backed forces from parts of Yemen’s western coast.
Military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the operation came amid a 12-year Saudi assault and blockade on Yemen, aimed at pressuring the country over its demands and its support for the Palestinian people, with attacks intensifying in recent months.
“The armed forces affirm that maritime navigation is safe for all companies, with the exception of Saudi ships,” Saree said, adding that operations would continue under an equation of “siege for siege” and “escalation for escalation” until “the aggression is stopped and the blockade on our people is lifted.”
🇾🇪🇺🇸🇸🇦 Axios: Trump declined Saudi requests to strike Ansarallah as they advanced
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman called U.S. President Donald Trump twice on Thursday, urging him to launch strikes against Yemen’s Ansarallah as they advanced along the Red Sea coast toward Bab al-Mandab, two U.S. officials told Axios. Trump declined, with Washington saying it has no plans to intervene directly for now.
A senior Trump administration official said Washington was focused on ensuring “freedom of navigation in the Red Sea” while “empowering our regional partners to take the lead.”
More than 100 U.S. military advisers are providing intelligence and targeting support to Saudi Arabia’s military campaign against Ansarallah through a newly established joint forces command, according to a new report from CNN, with one official putting the total closer to 200 troops.

NEW | Somali pirates have sustained an elevated rate of hijackings since April 2026 with possible support from the Houthis and al Shabaab, further increasing insecurity in key Red Sea shipping lanes.
The Houthis may be collaborating with al Shabaab to support the pirates, which would benefit al Shabaab financially and materially and support Houthi objectives to cultivate more leverage over Red Sea shipping by developing Houthi capability to influence the Gulf of Aden and southern entrance to the Bab el Mandeb without directly controlling the adjacent Yemeni or Somali coastlines. 🧵⬇️

My take: Retreating to the second island chain does not preserve the balance of power more cheaply. It changes the balance of power.

MORE: The Houthi offensive to capture territory near the Bab al Mandeb advances Iranian objectives under the current regional campaign that Iran is waging against the US and its allies. Key Points 🧵⬇️(1/3)
1. Iran is currently pursuing a regional campaign that aims to degrade the United States and its allies’ willingness to sustain the war against Iran and coerce the United States to surrender to Iranian demands.
- Iran is now attempting to improve its own position along the Bab al Mandeb through its partnership with the Houthis in order to expand its ability to disrupt international shipping routes beyond the Strait of Hormuz as another line of effort with its current regional campaign.
- The Iranian regime has actively provided military and financial support to aid the Houthi offensive to seize Mokha Port. Yemeni government, Iranian, and regional sources separately told Reuters on September 10 that Iran provided arms and guidance to the Houthis to support the offensive to seize Mokha Port, expand Houthi control over the vital Bab al Mandeb Strait, and open a new front in Iran’s conflict with the United States.

NEW | The Houthi offensive to capture territory near the Bab al Mandeb advances Iranian objectives under the current regional campaign that Iran is waging against the United States and its allies. Iran has recently pursued the following lines of effort under this regional campaign: Targeting US naval forces; Attacking US forces across the region; Disrupting traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
NEW: The Houthi offensive to capture territory near the Bab al Mandeb advances Iranian objectives under the current regional campaign that Iran is waging against the United States and its allies. Iran has recently pursued the following lines of effort under this regional campaign: Targeting US naval forces; Attacking US forces across the region; Disrupting traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
Other Key Takeaways:
The Houthis and Iran may currently share a common objective in Houthi control over the Red Sea coastline, but the nature of their relationship means that the Houthis will independently determine their level of involvement in supporting other Iranian objectives.
The Houthis’ capture of Mokha Port and reported landings on islands near the Bab al Mandeb may set conditions for potential Houthi efforts to establish themselves as a legitimate authority and guarantor of passage through the strait, as Iran has attempted to do in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Houthis exploited military developments in southwestern Yemen in recent days to conduct an offensive against Republic of Yemen Government (ROYG)-aligned forces along the Red Sea coastal plain and capture Mokha. The Houthis have also reportedly attempted to seize ROYG-controlled islands in the Red Sea from which Houthi fighters could launch attacks on international shipping.
The Houthis’ coastal plain offensive accomplished significant Houthi operational and strategic objectives that weaken the ROYG’s ability to disrupt Houthi operations and exert both short-term leverage over Saudi Arabia and possible long-term leverage over the international community. The Houthis could attempt to capture remaining territory on the coastal plain south of Mokha in order to secure lines of communication with Perim Island and exert full control over Yemen’s Red Sea coast.
