Modern AI is driven largely by engineering intuition and brute force. We are building larger and larger systems that we do not fully understand, with the hopes that we will learn to understand & control them.

But there is another path forward.

To build AI that we can understand - AI we can trust, extend, and reason about - we must stop only engineering and start explaining.

It is time for a scientific theory of intelligence.
