Today’s Teacher Spotlight honored Latreesha Jefferson, a CTAE teacher at Therrell High School, whose 17+ years in education continue to be driven by one mission: preparing students for post-secondary success and equipping them with real-world skills they can carry far beyond the classroom. ✨🍎

Ms. Jefferson shared that what continues to inspire her passion for teaching is the opportunity to create engaging lessons that encourage students to think creatively, collaborate with one another, and connect business concepts to everyday life. Her dedication to ensuring students are prepared for their futures is evident in every lesson, conversation, and opportunity she provides.

Students, staff, and community members regard Ms. Jefferson as more than just an outstanding educator; they see her as the definition of hard work, commitment, dedication, and excellence. Every day, she pours into her students, encouraging them to believe in themselves while creating an environment where they feel seen, supported, and empowered to succeed.

Her impact has been extraordinary. Ms. Jefferson was proudly named the 2026–2027 Teacher of the Year, a reflection of the countless lives she has touched through her leadership and unwavering dedication to education. School leaders and community members also shared their excitement about her joining the school’s GO Team, recognizing her continued commitment to advocating for students and helping shape a stronger future for the entire school community.

Meet John Johnson, our March Student of the Month 🌟 A senior at B.E.S.T. Academy, John shines in academics, leadership, and athletics. An A/B Honor Roll student in Dual Enrollment 🎓, he’s earned top honors, including 1st place at his school Science Fair and recognition as an AJ Terrell Scholar.
As President of the National Honor Society and Command Sergeant Major in JROTC ⭐, John leads with discipline and excellence, while also gaining experience through programs like Project ENGAGES and Bridge to Employment at Georgia Tech.
On the track 🏃🏾‍♂️💨, John ranks #1 in Georgia in the 300m hurdles and Top 5 in the state, holding multiple school records—including a blazing 37.92.
John truly represents excellence in Atlanta Public Schools. 💙

The ribbon-cutting ceremony at Henry Louis “Hank” Aaron Academy marked an exciting new chapter for the school with the opening of its new wing, featuring a gym, cafeteria, media center, and additional instructional spaces🎉.
