@robert_madison The only freely available information I have ever found was here https://t.co/UHJwJv9rc1 however this is liquid precipitation, but they create gridded data from the stations. So in essence you get a county-by-county value. For snowfall, I usually start at the NWS.
Can't overstate the value of having of having our own radar at the station here in Fort Myers.
On the left, view of (unconfirmed) tornadic storm this morning from our radar. On the right, the far away NWS Tampa radar...
@stormhighwaycom Yeah we are about the furthest south it happens with any regularity. Points north get it a lot more often than we do. We do get it a few times a winter but typically our bridges have a nice coating of salt on them already. No snow this year means the bridges could still be clean.
@stormhighwaycom According to the data from the Blanchette Bridge the bridge was roughly equal begin at 3:00AM till at least 7. Also the bridge was reporting snow ice warning during that time so the condition sensor was seeing something on the surface.
@stormhighwaycom Yes, it is not easy to get to but it is here. https://t.co/VqOD15exqS You have to do some digging…zoom in a lot and make sure “all networks is turned on”
I wish the media would have called the bridge problem event this morning in STL what it likely really was….frost that formed on bridges. Not black ice! I know I am slightly splitting hairs, but there is a difference. #stlwx
@stormhighwaycom It is not hard to forecast. This is frost forming on a bridge which forms when the temperature of the bridge drops below the dew point of the air around it. You need sensors at the bridge to tell you when it is about to occur. I used to do this type of forecasting.
