πππ Earth is a cradle for life & humanity. Expansion into space would help ensure survival after any planet-wide catastrophe, natural or otherwise. π»πΊπ¦π»
This is a poster I designed in 1980 for an outdoor event I co-organized in San Francisco to commemorate the 11th anniversary of Apollo 11 and the first landing of a person on the Moon.
@michaelshermer I'm much more progressive Left than cuckoo MAGA Right. "Transwomen" are free to feel however they want, but they will become biological women only when future medical science enables them to bear children.
I support the rights of biological women over those of transgender women.
@DrPhiltill@Robotbeat@MiTechComm25 The energies of a physical body going through sand preclude the macro movements of the worms but, yes, the vibrations were a nice touch, though most people wouldn't think of, or understand, the implied physics of fluidization. I'm even skeptical that the movie creators knew that.
@DrPhiltill@Robotbeat@MiTechComm25 (Before the movie versions, John Schoenherr's art in Analog provided Dune readers then with just the right amount of fuzzy detail for the fantastical scenes described in the serialization, particularly with regard to the sand worms, which are otherwise physically impossible.)
@DrPhiltill@Robotbeat@MiTechComm25 Most movies don't measure up to their text versions.
While the current Dune movies are excellent at visually showing the story's environment β I first read Dune in Analog β the omnipresent undercurrent of ethnic religion now unfortunately suggests support for Islamic jihadism.
@Astro_Jessica@Space_Station Moonglow was overemphasized in the most commonly released photo of nighttime Earth from the Artemis-2 mission, but underemphasized in others.
Noted astronomical artist Don Davis provided an adjusted image that's likely more accurate for what the dark-adapted human eye would see.
@michaelshermer Women give birth. Men do not.
Future medical science may one day allow people with gender dysphoria to fully transition to a preferred sex (one of two).
But until then, "transgender women" remain as men.
They can partner with or love anyone they like, but they are men, not women.
@poppy_northcutt "60 Minutes" was often good. It was certainly better than many long-form news programs.
In retrospect, it's clear that Bari Weiss was brought in as a "Trojan Horse" designed to help the anti-democracy, pro-libertarian currents in the Trump regime, if not the kleptocracy itself.
@OurWorldInData Transgender women are not in the same category as gay or lesbian people. Transgender women (men) claim to be women. They are not.
Women give birth.
Men do not.
Transgender women do not give birth either β because they are not women.
@redbonercladjal@FFRF I support FFRF, including with donations, for its effective opposition to Christian Nationalism; for supporting the separation of church & state; and for fighting for the rights of atheists.
But Iβm disappointed by its conflation of transgender women (men) with biological women.
