@aliveandgigging@Adamhus75560180@WithamMarco@swinburne_mark I don't question AG's ability. I just don't think he was the difference maker in a lot of games this season. If he stated his intention to leave this summer, and the chance to cash in big was there, I believe benching him was the right call.
@mumba88 Newcastle is a selling club. You can dream about a world where NUFC equals Bayern, Barcelona or any of the big five, but a dream is all it is.
@P29653064Paul@footyinsider247 Based on past performances I would give him another season. But aside from Howe, Iraola seems like a fantastic option. Afraid he's got something better in mind though.
@scottwilson1984@John_Regan_ You should go back and have another look at that squad. They rightly had huge problems and not just due to a horrendous manager.
@swinburne_mark This Champions League campaign had 12 games with just three defeats. Two of them against Barcelona - the last one seems to have erased every memory about the rest of the tournament. 58 games this season. Perhaps he needed a deeper squad to finish in top 5 again? 2/2
@swinburne_mark Unlimited credit... the memory inhere. Howe took over a 19th placed team, finished 11th. Then 4th. Then 7th in a UCL season. Then 5th plus cup win. This season has been the first disappointing one, and he had to replace one of the 2-3 best strikers in the league. 1/2
@P29653064Paul@footyinsider247 He stays for two seasons tops. The first one is great, then he wears down everyone at the club in year two and leaves behind a need for yet another rebuild. Great manager short term, but not the man two take Newcastle to the top.
@Johnny4PM@JakeJackmann Aside from that Chelsea had a CL team in 02/03 and top 6 in at least the three seasons before. Newcastle had Mike Ashley and Steve Bruce's horseshit.
@Johnny4PM@JakeJackmann Chelsea signed 11 players in 03/04 and the same in 04/05. I strongly doubt an onslaught like that would even be possible today. And if you could somehow build a comparable scenario in today's conditions, Newcastle's dealings under Eddie Howe would look miniscule.
