@GeorgieHill77 don’t know if there’s anything you can do but it’s taken us over 2 hours so far to leave the loaning meadows car park due to the traffic caused by the roadworks on the A1 roundabout. If the works are due for any more days, they need to be cancelled.
One of the things I've noticed over the last decade or so is the increasing trend for people to be incapable of imagining what other people's lives are like, or even incapable of imagining that people who are different from themselves and who think and live differently, not only exist, but have a right to exist.
It's ironic, given we are lectured daily on the need to value "diversity" yet at the same time any divergence of thought or action outside of a constantly narrowing "approved" window is not tolerated.
We saw it with Brexit. We saw it with lockdowns and mask wearing and vaccinations. We see it with climate science and Low Traffic Neighbourhoods and 15 minute cities.
A complete inability to recognise that while you might like being in the EU and being able to buy artisan French charcuterie in a bijou deli run by a Lithuanian, that there exist other people for whom this is not only not a priority, but who would prefer not to have to compete in the job market with a flood of low skills migrants allowing employers to force wages down.
A complete inability to recognise that - while you might quite enjoy lockdowns, "working" from home or even being furloughed there, with amazon and Ocado drivers bringing an endless supply of goodies while themselves being exposed to a deadly virus, while you brush up on your baking skills or do a few circuits of your multi-gym - others are trapped in a high rise flat for weeks at a time, trying to home school their kids and hold down a job, on a tiny salary.
A complete inability to recognise that while you may have swallowed the media narrative about vaccines and masks and TeH ViRuS, that the 20+% of people who were sceptical about all of it from the beginning, not only had a right to be sceptical, and a right to voice their scepticism, but that it was entirely possible they were correct.
A complete inability to recognise that while "saving the planet" might be a nice piece of virtue to signal at a posh dinner party, Net Zero is not "science" but a political and economic project and is hugely damaging to the poorest in society who cannot afford "renewable" energy or heat pumps or electric vehicles or all of the other nonsense being pushed at us under the entirely misleading banner of "environmentalism".
A complete inability to recognise that while low traffic neighbourhoods might be fine for a single person in their twenties living in a city close to amenities who is capable of walking and cycling everywhere, there exist other people who have young kids who need to be transported longer distances, or people who have a business which requires regular use of a van; or people who need to transport large heavy things regularly; or people who are elderly or disabled and reliant on transport for other reasons, or people who rely on taxis, or people who suffer emergencies and need emergency services to have access; or people who don't live in Notting Hill or Islington and don't have everything they need within walking distance, or people who just VALUE THE FREEDOM TO GO WHERE THEY WANT, WHEN THEY WANT.
When did society become so selfish and so intolerant and so incapable of imagining what it's like to have or want a different life from yours?
It's ironic really that Margaret Thatcher was demonised when she was quoted (out of context) saying "there is no such thing as society, only individuals". The people who think and behave as I describe above would probably be the first to say how much they despise Thatcher and yet, here they are, behaving as if there is no such thing as society, just individuals, purely focused on their individual self-interest.

@charliekirk11@elonmusk@BBCNews this is why I’m leaving.
I was browsing my “for you” timeline, and I’m brought face to face with a video of an execution.
I’m here to be entertained, to complain about politics, and generally waste time. Not to be traumatised.
Why was I offered this?
@DrMaxxC The value of the loan is meaningless when the loan is written off after 30 years,
Wish I had these sort of terms when I bought my house.
Borrow £95k
Repay £138pm
Call it quits after 30 years having paid back around £47k
What salary would pay it in full before 30 years?
@theJeremyVine It’s either :
1- he recognised you and deliberately wanted to ruin your day (you are the centre of the universe)
Or
2- people make mistakes, and because you were using your defensive driving / riding skills nothing bad happened.
@IntEngineering Looks amazing but all the dust and leaves will be decanted into the water when you retract the cover. Apart from the insulation properties it kind of makes more problems.
@Jacob_Rees_Mogg It’s actually more like chronic allograft rejection.
It’s taken time, most even thought the transplant would hold.
Given time, we now see he was slowly poisoning the host.
He broke the country’s trust and his defence is that he is too stupid to realise he was braking his rules!
